any golfers here?

can anyone recommend a good driver. I perfer titanium or anything else that is really lite. the cheaper the better as i wont use it more than once a month at the driving range

Nike Sasquatch or if you're really noob, big bertha's are solid. If you really are noob to the max. NO DRIVER. Use fairway woods. Noobs don't fvck with drivers because drivers won't forgive you.

depends on your level of play, how much you want to spend. you can buy drivers from anywhere from 25 dollars to 500.

Don't worry.........you'd be hard pressed to find one.

I would HIGHLY suggest you get a chance to swing a few.

Grip, length, weight, head shape............those will all contribute to your *feel* out there.

Swing a few & pick what you like!!!

you can pick up all sorts of newer, forgiving drivers for $100 or less used. ebay is a great place. i figure you just want to hack away at a ball with your friends? pretty much anything will serve you. you could probably go to walmart.

but if you want nicer, 1-2 year old titanium clubs that should be under $100 used that come to mind...titleist 983K, taylormade r580xd, cleveland launcher 400, nike ignite 410, callaway big bertha (2004), and lots more. if you're a n00b and shopping on ebay, get high loft (>10.5) and regular flex.

too bad you missed out on that nicklaus 380 driver at amazon for 29 bucks.

does kickin' a$$ at Tiger Wood 2K3 count? only about halfway through 2K5 on my ps2 and haven't really started on 2K6 on the 360 yet....😀

I would hate to play any TW's game on a console. TrueSwing is the best part of the game.

Oh, and I saw the Nike SasQuatch driver at Dick's last week. The non-tour model looks ridiculous. I have a Cleveland Launcher 460 (not the newest model though). Before the Cleveland I had a Callaway Big Bertha Titanium.

there are many cheap drivers you can get at Sports Athourity for less then 50 bucks. they arnt really name brand ones but if your just going to use it at the range once a month i wouldnt even spend 100 bucks on it.

if you are new to the game and you dont even know if your going to stick with it go with the cheap no namers. then if you find that you enjoy the game and your going to go out with the guys to play 18 holes 2 times a month then i would start to step up to better ones. after that things start to get crazy. you have to think of which one, what kind of shaft. i personnelly have a Taylor Made R580 with a Gafaloy xtra stiff shaft. ran me 400 sum for the cluba nd 150 to reshaft. but that is me.

also if you are really going to get into the game i would recommend saving on the driver and getting a really good putter and irons. reason is that you only use your driver at most 16 holes a round. that is only 16 strokes. verses your putter which you use 18 holes averaging 2 strokes per hole. also you know that you are going to use your irons on every hole too. just keep that in mind

Once a month at the driving range? That's not much.. you're best going to Academy / Sports Authority and finding something that looks and feels good in your hand (Regular shaft, >= 10 * loft) than looking for a particular brand. You should be able to find a whole bunch of no-names for clearance. Put one in your hand, get in your stance and maybe do half-swings or so to see what feels comfortable.

A lot of golf sets come with drivers, so did you already buy a set of irons separately?

I personally have a TM R580XD (10.5*, Regular shaft -> I swing like a girl 😱), and I enjoy it. I did buy a TM R7 Quad from the AMEX Wishlist thing, but I'm waiting until I can hit < 100 consistently before I congratulate myself with an upgrade.

You don't know what you're talking about

Ensure you get a 10+ degree driver if you're a noob. Easier to launch the ball that way. There are several deals around where 2-3 year old drivers might be sub-$100. TaylorMades, Callaway, Wilson, Nike ... have a look, and try a few if you can before you buy. If not, go for one that looks good to your eye, and learn to use it.

I've gone done to 8.5 degrees and I still get too much height on my drives.

Move the ball back in your stance a bit then.

I own an Orlimar Trimetal 440CC and i love it. I used to have a TM Firesole and a Big Bertha both werent as good as this but they are also older.

Hit a resale / Sports Exchange type shop. My father and I go to a shop near my home and we've gotten some great deals on hardly used clubs. Paying like 25 to 40% of the original price for a club that was used less than 10 times.

Get an oil-hardened persimmon wood with bore-through shaft, ferrule, and stiff shaft with a high flex point. It will be unforgiving but, OH, the FEEL!!!

One of my favorite places for clubs is 3ballsgolf, they sell top line stuff at a deep discount and they auction nice used clubs on ebay for a song like here Titleist 975
This particular driver wouldn't be for a beginner because its 8.5degree loft and an Xstiff shaft, most likely why this one was for sale is it was too much stick for its owner🙂 But just look at his other auctions. For a novice I would recomend 10.5 or 11degree with a medium or stiff shaft depending on size and strength.

I've used them many times and thier great.
