Any GoDaddy employees here?

As some of you know, I'm planning on moving to the Phoenix area soon. I'm not having much luck so far getting a full time police position, so I'm considering going for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office reserve program and working elsewhere full time until something opens up.

A friend of mine used to work for GoDaddy and said they're always hiring - pay and benefits aren't bad (benefits are better than mine now, and pay looks to be quite close), but I'm not sure I could handle answering phones for a living. There are other positions there but I'd have to look around to see what exactly I'd be qualified for.

From what I can find, it's a good place to work and I'm sure I could handle it short-term...any thoughts?

GoDaddy just sold to a group of investors less than a week ago. Something to watch out for.

I don't work for GoDaddy but I work for a decent sized company in Phoenix.

Do you have a resume somewhere online? If not, send me a PM and I'll reply with my email address. Depending on your skills, I may be able to pass your resume to a few openings.

Not trying to poopoo on you decision to move, but why do it if you can't find a job in your preferred profession?

How do you feel working alongside a bunch of people who won the lotto and basically checked out?

The people who got the payouts don't work in the call centers dude. 😛 They're all corporate HQ people. And my understanding is that current management isn't leaving. People are moving up and into difference positions. I'd be very scared myself if the company sold, and all the senior management bailed. :/

I work for GoDaddy myself, but not in the call centers. And I enjoy what I do, for the most part.

He was trying to get a police officer position. Most state and local budgets are strained at best, there's not many open PD positions.

I understand, but what I am asking is there something that is forcing the move? Why not wait until a job opportunity is in place?

PM heading your way.

I can't take New England anymore. I've had too many cold winters and humid summers. For example, now:

Flying out every time I test for an agency is expensive and sucks up vacation time. I also won't apply for small agencies with only one or two openings due to the expense involved in flying cross-country for the testing process. If I lived closer, I could. And see above re: weather. I'm completely fed up at this point.

Had a few friends over the years and still have a few friends that work for them now. They all say it's good. If you do well and sell a lot you get great bonuses from what I understand.

I used to work for them in Tempe. They have 3 locations...Scottsdale, Tempe, Gilbert.

I'm not good at sales, so I didn't last long....like 5 months. I did win 5k tax free at the Christmas party on Chase Field though 😀

If you are good with bullshitting and selling services to people even if you don't think they'd want it or need it, you will do fine. It is somewhat of a pressure sales job, daily tracking of what you've done etc. If you are good with that, there are ALWAYS bonuses on top of bonuses. You get a sort of commission, plus if you hit a certain dollar amount you are entered into prize drawings every month for pretty cool shit. Catered food for cheap everyday is a plus. You definitely won't want to miss out on the Christmas party if you get hired on. Mortgage payments for a year, trips around the world, cars, 5k cash, 10k cash....those are the prizes they usually give out randomly. Even if you suck at sales like me!

I thought about looking in a different department (other than sales), but all I saw that I could really consider was HR out of Scottsdale. Tempe would be more convenient for where I'll be, I think.

Those are the locations that have call centers in Arizona. We have a few sites in Iowa as well, plus a number of other sites that aren't call centers.

The call center people have a lot of opportunities to win prizes, cash, electronics, etc. Its some 90+% sales, but there's some technical support which varies depending on exactly where you are in that department. Pay is fairly decent, if you sell well. I think its similar to a lot of other call center type positions.

I like the department I work in, and I know a lot of departments hire from the call center people. Smart people move up.

Don't do anything rash at this point. You have a killer job to most people. Use your vacation time or something, get a little downtime. Then decide.

My apologies if it sounds like this was a snap decision - I went through an application process with Scottsdale in November '09 (266 tested for three positions) and Tempe this past May (830+ applied, 300 tested, approximately 10 positions). I'm still waiting to hear back from Tempe, but I'm certainly not holding my breath. I've been considering/planning this move for over three years.

Err why phoenix specifically? Wouldn't it make more sense just look for open full time PD positions in the area? ( or are warm states "desirable" for LEO?)

Border patrol might be an option also; I'd imagine your skill set would be a direct transfer.

Make more sense to look for open full time PD positions in what area..? I'd take anywhere in the east valley, but I'm not going to pay to fly out there to test for a place that has only one opening. If I lived out there, it'd be different.

Border Patrol could be an option, though they seem to get shot at quite often. That would suck.

AZ, NV and all the desert states around there. There has to be some vacancies around there.

NV doesn't allow lateral transfers so I'd have to go through the entire academy again. And the desert is too brown and boring. 😛 New Mexico and Utah are too far away from anything interesting. I like AZ because I have friends there and it's a fairly short drive to Vegas and CA.

There are definitely openings every now and again, but I can't keep flying out there to test.

Border Patrol has a very thankless job. When they don't do their jobs, people scream at them. When they do do their job, people scream at them and send them to prison. 🙁 Its sad. Lots of respect to the Border Patrol guys though.
