Been tempted to get MASS Effect for the PC even after beating it on the 360...but...wondering if it worth it.

Details : I loved the game, but 2 things NEARLY ruined it for me on the 360 in that I almost gave up on completing it.

1. First and foremost Xbox360 CD read errors. I could go on and on about my disapointment with the flawed hardware of the 360, but it all started with Mass Effect. It got to the point where I could barely play.

2. The planet exploration / Mako. The Mako was cool, well done.. but I started to get sick of it. The uncharted planets got a little too cookie cutter. In saying that I kind of wanted to complete more of the side quests, but mainly the cd read errors killed that desire. I just flew through the main quest as quick as possible.

I ended up as a "GOOD character" though I was borderline. Not sure how much would be different a second time through. I inter-mingled my party alot, in that I would change it up mission to mission. I have heard of things happending to other people playing that never happened in my game, ( not gonna give spoilers ) so...maybe that would be cool.

What do you guys think? anyone else play it through a second time on PC after the 360 and think it was worth it?

I have a pretty good rig ... Athalon 4400, 2 gig ram, 8800GT.

1. I will speak for myself, but I can say that my copy of Mass Effect is 100% working, no copy-protection related problems. I insert it, the automatic pop-up menu appears, I click play and voila, the game loads. So, for me, no problems about DVD errors or anything that would prevent me from playing it legitimately.

2. Well, you know, Mass Effect is not, wasn't developed as, and shouldn't be considered like a game such as The Elder Scrolls series. That game (Mass Effect) is very linear, it does give some, very basic freedom (for example choosing where to go with your ship in the galaxy given the choices that are available of course). If you play a second time through the one thing that will not be linear will be your own character and perhaps the skills/abilities of your teammates in the end. But other than that if you go exploring Noveria in a new game the same scripted events will happen and the same Geth will attack you when you're outdoors with the Mako, in the same numbers, using the same weapons and again pretty much standing there still waiting for you to destroy them.

I really think that Mass Effect shouldn't be considered a game to be played for relaxation knowing that for example you could do whatever you want, when you want, like in Oblivion. It's not the case. If you stand still in the Citadel Wards doing nothing, well... nothing special will happen, the same random citizens will sit at the same benches moving their hands as if they were discussing topics with that other random citizen, the ones who walk around will use the same paths over and over again. It's a very scripted world, so you must go on and do the missions, or else it will be a very boring game in terms of what "else" you can do other than the main and/or side quests. Once you've explored all of the planets on which you can land, there's technically not many other reasons to play ME again, other than making a completely new character and trying those same missions on a different approach thanks to the new skills and so on. And, of course, with a new character you can try and become a full-fledged Renegade or divine-like Paragon, or somewhere in between.

There's some replay value, but not much. In other words I wouldn't see why you would go with the PC version now that you have the XB360 version, I mean excluding the technical issues with the DVD you seem to have. If those issues are too irritating then, hey, why not? Get the PC version I guess. And your system should run the game just fine, just adjust the in-game settings to accommodate your system's capabilities. And finally, as for me, I currently am still playing in my first game. But I've read enough of it and seen enough videos that it has been confirmed that ME is just quite scripted and only a few minor things would be different when playing it again, the one thing being potentially very different is the character you play as, of course, but it's certainly not a game in the same vein as Oblivion or Stalker or the next FarCry game. Just think of Mass Effect as a spiritual sequel or at least a huge and not very subtle nod to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

I got 20+ hours into the 360 version before stopping and waiting for the PC version. My pc copy is working very well indeed, though I am just starting the story over again.

Only reason I'd say to replay the game is if you really enjoyed it the first time and want to try a different character build, being evil, and want to see a different sex scene [if you chose male, try choosing female]. The outcome of the game will be the same though...
