Purchased a new house and new washer/dryer.

Today the washer decided to not stop filling up. Flooded half my house. I am taking my break from the wet/dry shopvac while my wife takes her turn.

Any suggestions on how to approach GE about this one? We were home when it happened. We just happened to be in the room farthest from the washer/dryer.

I believe we will have to have a professional come in and dry the carpet. We will be shopvacing it probably til midnight tonight and half of tomorrow.

I want GE to pay for the costs of fixing my carpet(and they better give me a brand new washer since I will never trust this one again). It was professional installed and the fault was in the washer since it just overflowed on the top.

EDIT: BTW, I already called GE and they said that I will need to call customer relations and they aren't open until Monday.

Nothing you can do really expect to call them and tell them what happened. Be somewhat nice so you'll have a shot at getting what your wanting. That really sucks for a new home purchase, good luck with GE.

Well for the short term does any one know the cost of having a company like stanley steamer come and dry out the carpet?

I'd be willing to bet that it would either be 1) very costly because of the holiday weekend, or 2) Hard to get personnel on site to perform the work due to the Holiday.

However, I think a few other things should also be checked out. There is a possibility that your drain in your house could be blocked somewhere - which led to the washer backing up the water. Houses are built all the time with junk in the PVC drain pipes. You might want to place a call with your builder to have a plumber check the drain out.

Good luck with G.E., though.

1) Check out this, cheap insurance on it happening again
2) Good luck with GE, but if the damage is bad your home owners insurance is likely where you'll need to turn

GE will make you file claim forms but without attorney your chances are low

your best bet is contacting vice president and ceo of GE

Just replace the carpet IMO

In my cases mold or something will start to form, not sure how well getting the carpet steamed will fix that

Ha ha. GOod luck with that.

FIrst off, you need to deal with GE Appliances, not just GE. GE Corporation has tens of thousands of employees around the world and none of the GE companies have anything to do with each other. SO getting in touch with GE, won't do you any good unless it's the right GE.

ANyway, have you tried calling whoever you bought the thing from to see what they say? I'm sure it'd be a warranty issue but I don't know why they would replace it instead of fixing whatever little part happened to fall off.

Good luck with getting them to payu for the damages but that might fall under HomeOwners/Renters insurance so you could also call your agent and just ask a Hypothetical question about a washer flooding and see what they say.....

It didn't backup. The moment I reset the washer and set it to the spin cycle, it started draining immediately. The sensor that tells the washer it has enough water is what screwed up.

We have a concrete slab. No basement to worry ab out.

As for replacing the carpet. First off we have a VERY open floor plan. We would have to replace almost all the carpet in our house.

$1000 deductible. If I did that, my premiums will sky rocket and I will pay for the damage 10 times over.

You have homeowners insurance for accidents, so I wouldn't expect GE to fix your house.

ge should replace everything it damaged, and probably will if you ask them nicely :)

When I was a kid we (my parents) bought a jug of bleach, walked in, put in on the steps. The bottle had a tiny crack or something, and left a big white spot on the carpet, called up the manufacturer, bought us new carpet for the affected region.

so why do you have the homeowner's insurance at all, if you aren't willing to use it, in fear of your premium?

if you bought a new house and it had it in there, contact the home manufacturer or the sub that did the work. GE isn't going to give a damn.

did your house come with a warranty. when we bought ours, it did.

that isn't an accident, it's a defective product. the manufacturer should definitely be held responsible.

I haven't read all the previous replies, but what you have to do is turn in a claim to your homeowners insurance. They will take it from there.
