Any games in the horizon that will prompt you to upgrade?

Just wondering. I'm sure Crysis 2 will push the envelope as did the original, but if you don't play FPS, is there anything out there that would make you upgrade your Radeon 5xxx or Nvidia 4xx?

Nope, I just went from a 4890 to a 5870 because I found a deal...the 4890 was still doing okay for me, so I think I will be good for a while.

Depending on how ME3 and D3 run, I may add a second 5870 (or if I decide to go to an eyefinity setup).

Yeah I'm looking forward to GW2 as well and Diablo 3. I doubt that they would require more than the Radeon HD 5xxxx / Nvidia 4xx to max out.

I hope they do because it would give me a reason to upgrade 😀

I really liked the Radeon 6xxx series. I wish I opted for that instead of the 5xxxx.

I can think of a couple. Diablo 3. Star Wars Knights. Red Orchestra 3. Guild Wars 2. Those are the big games on my horizon.

I'm sitting pretty nicely on a i5-750 @ 4.2 w/ 2x 5770's. Able to max out Cataclysm and New Vegas. Probably will drop in dual 560's and a sandy bridge when the latter three come out, and I can definitively research where I need to be performance wise. Who knows? I remember Guild Wars 1 being a godsend as it performed fantastically on modest hardware. Red Orchestra 3 is straight Unreal 3 engine, so I don't know how I feel there. Bioware's Star Wars Knights engine is a total mystery.

Crysis 2? Please. A waste of time. We have just recently been able to run Crysis 1. Crysis 2 will be straight to PS3/360 for me. At least with the above games I have some hope of putting together a rig that will perform well.

Might get a second GTX570 for Battlefield 3, probably gonna get one anyway by the end of the year.

Why? Even if the absolute ultra max uber settings won't be able to run @60fps on SLI'd 560's. Whatever will run (at least very high) is gonna look a HEEEEELL of a lot better than on some 5 yr old console.

Because I do not live in shades of grey. It's black or white. 0fps or 60fps. Its a disorder and I should seek help.

Is it even guaranteed 60fps on consoles? I know I have seen games stutter before, namely Rainbow 6 Vegas (or 2, I forget which).

Anyway, drop the detail level until you get 60fps. Problem solved. 😛

Grey. See if I play on 360/PS3, I have no choices. (thats black/white)

sliders offer grey area. they are bad. do you see?

I think when Crysis 2 releases the original will still be the best looking game out there. They went with New York and all its high rises for a reason (consoles being one of them).

Crysis 2, maybe BF3

Once the game reviews are out and they are both good games, I might upgrade.

I just got a 460 so I can put 4870 into my 2nd rig, it does everything i need and some.

If your system is a little dated than there could be plenty of games that would require an upgrade in the near future, but the next game I see being released that is going to make EVERYONE want to upgrade is Rage in September 2011. Given id's track record, I'd be disappointed if it didn't.

Rage won't need an upgrade. It runs at 60 fps on consoles and it is the same game on PC but with higher resolutions and AA. A 2 series Nvidia or 4 series AMD card should be fine for it. Id said Doom 4 would be a different story though. That game will be 2013 at the earliest.

With 2 5870's with the only thing I can think that might make me upgrade is a DX 12 game. It took over 3 generations of video cards for the first Crysis to become really playable all the way through with everything on high. With CVAR editing, I can make it go single digits still on top of the line dual cards. I hope Crysis 2 is just as punishing, but I can't see upgrading till the 7 series at the very earliest, more likely when the 8 series launch.

Games aren't the reason I upgrade, although I primarily game on my PC. I will probably upgrade when the next latest and greatest GPU comes out and a waterblock for it is released.

I'll probably get a new video card when I build a completely new system. Might go with a 6970 with eyefinity if its in my budget.

The only game I'm really upgrading for is Dirt 3 and F1 2011.
