any g2 owners care to help

i'm looking for step by step guide to using autofocus,i dont know whats going on,i just got a replacement g2 and its got same problem again ,when i press shutter halfway as per manual nothing happens no lights or beeps ,autofocus is set to single mode.they couldnt have sent back the same camera to me could they it came back in same box i sent it but strap etc was new ?

figured it, you gotta hold the buton down til it focusses ,after all that. i had a 6900 before that threw me you just press it and let go.
