Do yourself a favor, this isn't free.

But you can get all this:

  • Hosting for your own domain name
  • 100mb Disk Space
  • 1000mb of bandwidth per month
  • 5 subdomains
  • 5 ftp accounts
  • 5 mysql databases
  • 5 e-mail accounts
  • Auto Responders
  • Mail forwarding
  • Web based e-mail
  • Mail blockers
  • Web based statistics
  • Password protected directories
  • Front page extensions 2002
  • CGI Support
  • PHP Support
  • MySQL Support
  • Server Side Includes
  • PhpMyAdmin

for only $5/yr.

Thanks for the lead but they require a credit card and a setup fee.. I'd prefer something 100% free..I'm sure something like this exists..
Thanks!

Do you have any webspace provided by your ISP? You usually get some space + email with an ISP.

You can probably get unlimited bandwidth, if you look really hard.

Great features for a great price .. But, really, I would prefer something free for my many odd and wacky projects that I have in mind (i.e. in the geocities days I used to have many sites - one for each of my wacky interest).. I really would like a 100% free server - I will keep this URL handy if one of these wacky projects demand professional hosting..

Trust me, these people will not listen.

I cannot believe people aren't willing to fork over a LOUSY $5, argh this annoys me to no end.

Question - do you work for the company? I think I will fork over the $5 but I've found that deals like this often have some loop holes (MASSIVE fees if you exceed your b.w. limit, set up fees, etc. etc. etc. etc.).. The catches are so frustrating to deal with that I'd rather just sign up with a free server that doesn't ask for my credit card #.. I'll look into it though.. I was with ReadyHosting a while back and this is 1/20th of the price.. Though I still relish the days when hobbyists could just put up a silly personal site for free..

No I don't work for them. If you sign up please DO NOT expect any tech support, after all you're only paying $5/yr for web hosting.

I believe if you go over your bandwidth (over 1GB for a hobby site is considerable) your website is offline until the next month.

$#@!

There's Nyx which has been free for about fourteen years now, but you do have to register and send in proof of identity and the person handling the validations usually takes about four to eight weeks to process it.

Nyx is pretty much completely frill-free and hasn't changed a whole lot since the old days (apart from adding things like webspace when the whole www thing took off and updating the hardware several times). No custom domain hosting and it's limited to non-commercial (personal, research, charitable) use, but external linking to graphics is allowed and there are no ads, pop-ups, or anything else stuck into your webspace apart from what you put there.

I second doteasy.
35 bucks for life!
Email and basic web hosting.

I really thought it was too good to be true.
What the heck, if it doesn't work I'll get my money back.

Aside from some initial email issues (due to my temporary server), now that I'm off of the temporary server(2 days), it rocks!

Thought I'd mention this since it's nice not having a monthly/yearly bill at all.

Thanks MitzEclipse!
