Just wondering.. I have never seen a forum as active as the ones here. You post a message and you dont have to wait a day for a response like almost every other board.

So, are there any forums as active as AT?

Why? You want to leave us? Fine then... go ahead. See if we care. *shrug*

;)

I have never seen a forum as big as Anandtech so far (never bothered to look).

Every forum focuses on a certain interest or hobby.

Anandtech Forums benefit from the synergy of their medium and their focus.

These forums focus on computer technology. Therefore, these forums attract people who like to work with and work on computers all day long. Since these people work on computers all day long, they can post on the forums all day long.

There's quite a few Automobile Forums out there. They get a lot of traffic. Don't even need to be a Ricer to be an addict!

Well if this place goes the way of AGN, then I will be on Adul's or Hzl's forum.

depends on your interests. there's a great site for info on dvd's, and others for mtn biking, ect.. anand's kind'a morphed into what it is today. there is alot of technical experience in this forum but the folks don't live on the net, so they visit when they can and offer help where they can. expect it's the same in other forums. the ot section is alway active, while other portions are just the opposite. but overall I've been pretty happy with the results of spending time and input here.

There's some 80,000 members here - I think most of us log on every day - I've posted topics and had 10 replys within minutes... this is a great place for people who don't have a life (like me):)

i dont think most of those 80,000 log on everyday, i bet only a few thousand regularly come here, if there was 80,000 active posting members, it would be waaaay busier and you'd never get to know anyone (well, almost never)

god i hope not...

i already "waste" enough time as it is here, as do so many others... if there were other, different forums as interesting and active as AT i don't think anyone would get anything done ever... i mean... AT offtopic has gotta skim what? 3..4..5 percent off the top of the north american GDP... soceity would crumble if there were others of it's calibre...

boards.ign.com

i'm a mod there (we've got like 40,000 or so active users a day) and it's active almost all night long on most of the console boards. it's the boards for the gaming website IGN.

drop by and feel free to PM me if you need anything. me.

<edit: btw - i love these forums as well, i've been reading for months - just too lazy to bother making a name. the hot deals board is killer on my wallet.>

boards.ign.com are hella busy. so busy, in fact, that your post is usually on the front page for about 30 seconds, with their 10 new posts/minute. (specifically the gamecube board). and the thing i hate about it is that its the same topics over and over and over again. every time something happens related to nintendo, every 12 year old idiot in the world has to post the news in their own topic. thats why i spend most of my time here now

Has there ever been a member purge? Like..delete accounts and messages from that account that haven't been logged into for more than 6 months say? or a year or something? Would that even help speed up the db? I'm sure several thousand accounts are dormant
