Guys,

I'm based in Nairobi, Kenya. Just curious to know how many other guys out there participating in this forum are from Africa.

If we are to believe most researchers, all of us are from Africa . . .

Cool! I've been to Nairobi. Stayed with my brother-in-law in Karen, ate at the Carnivore.

I disagree, most of the forum appears to be American but not 95%.

However there's also quite a few AT'ers from Canada, Asia, Europe/UK and even Australia.

I traveled deep within the Congo once to locate agent Kurtz. I came out with my sanity barely intact.

Welcome. :p

Kenya has internet access!? The only pictures I've ever seen of Kenya are of very, very tribal-ish settings - no technology short of rocks and stones... :Q

Cool!! There was a guy from Kenya who came to work at my church here in the States for four years before going back to his family. It was cool. I thought, being a drummer, that I had rhythm. OMFG... ALL of the drummers at my church got shown up by his l337 5|<iZiLz. I've never heard such weird time signatures. :p

Thanx for the welcome, and no we don't just have "rocks and stones" here. We do have interenet access (evidently, I wouldn't be posting here if it weren't so), in fact, I'm browsing off a University 1Mbps satellite downlink! The media does tend to portray a rather negative and overly traditional view of most african country, where there is men, there's love for hardware - be it PC, auto, whatever! There obviously aint as many hardware enthusiast here as there are there but we've got a couple. I'm hoping to start a hardware site soon, a possible first for Africa. PC hardware knowledge here is almost non-existant. We've got all these certified pple (A+, N+, etc. etc.) but majority of them don't know much at all. We hope to change that soon.

Wow, you seem really knowledgeable about computers and related things - and you have an especially good command of the English language. I guess I've been brainwashed by the media here, because you're right - I had a very primitive view of Kenya.

Welcome!

We don't have much in the form of resources here. That's the main difference between you and us. I had to source components for my rigg from the states coz they don't have the stuff I want here. Majority of the stuff they sell here is OEM. It's almost impossible to get a good mobo or video card here. No major brand RAM, no JB series western digitals, no case modding kits :frown: Just plain stuff here. But things are slowly changing. The other day I bought a case with a glass side panel. It aint no Xaser but it's a start. It was the first time I actually came across anything so "enthusiast-ish". JUst hope they keep the stuff coming.

hey good luck in your website venture, maybe you should drop the big boss a PM and ask for some advice. Also there are people on this forum (and on Hardforums) that run online businesses, I'm sure they would be more than happy to help you out.

I went to college with a girl from Kenya, it was fun to talk to her, she had a very different perspective on things then we have here in the USA.

I lived in Nigeria (Lagos and Abuja) for most of my life, and spent three months in South Africa (Durban). Although right now I'm living in Canada.

I loved Nigeria and am sick of all the ish that is happening there right now. See this is what happens when you go democratic...but that's for another thread.
