Any Flash masters?

I'm trying to set up a site where I can stream videos a la youtube etc. I know a TON of sites do it, so it can't be all that hard can it? Do I need the newest version? Do I even actually need to buy Flash?

Edit: I will be hosting the raw video files on the same host (unless that isn't a good idea) so if there's an easy way to link them that'd be great.

Edit 2: New request! How would I make a map with links on it. Like if you click a preset dot on the map it links to a page?

Would that apply to a flash map as well? Or would the flash file overlay on the html so you couldn't click the links under it?

And what exactly am I asking for support for? No specific thing except web design features, and there is no web design forum. Where would you post general website building inquiries?

i'm taking a Flash class & enjoying it & doing all right grade-wise.

i'd suggest taking a class and/or reading Todd Perkins Flash CS3 Hands-On
Training. also, signing up for video training at Lynda.com, actually they
have some good free Flash CS3 training but mostly it's a paying website.

it is very wierd using frames on a timeline to hold Actionscript code.

can you imagine, in a 3D Max shop, if someone said, "i know ! let's put
our code on the frames ! yeah, right there at frame 112 (or whatever)."

You didn't read the link, so here it is
Questions regarding troubleshooting, technical support, and product advice belong in other appropriate forums such as General Hardware, Networking, Video, etc. They have more traffic and, they are visited by knowledgable, enthusiastic members eager to share good advice and help troubleshoot problems.

People spent two years to get this Category, we don't need people messing it up.
This is for how to solve the problems of the universe and not some hardware issue .

You've been here long enough to know that.

And I'll ask again, where would you post web design help questions?

It's not hardware
It's not video
It's not networking

?

Edit: But you *are* right. I guess I'll just google for a web help forum or something.

Software for Windows
Programming
Off-Topic (for more traffic)

I would recommend Programming. Whether or not you want to call Flash programming, it does go hand-in-hand with programming. If you look in the sticky thread in the programming forum, you will see many types of web design languages and scripts listed there. Good luck with your question.

In Flash, you would select a certain area and designate it as HotSpot. Once it's done, you can assign GetUrl(...) to the click event of that hotspot. Very simple, actually 🙂
