Any firefighters?

Before you do anything, if you're really serious about firefighting you need to try it as volunteer work or begin to attend training sessions. Do some research as well, some places don't pay their firefighters so make sure you are in an area where you can choose that as a viable career.

I'm a professional Firefighter for 10 years, and it is a good job for many reasons with a few drawbacks. The biggest thing that atracks people to this job besides the excitement and job satisfaction are the hours. a majority of career fire departments work a 24hr on duty shift with 48hrs off. Pay is good for most large citys in metro areas, but alot firefighters start businesses or work part time on there days off for extra cash, some are very creative. There are days when I have to ask my self why I do this work. It can be very high stress and dangerous. You have to keep yourself in shape physically and mentally. I think also the brotherhood and friendships I've made are the most rewarding part of the jop for me.

My advice is to stop by a firehouse in your area ore the area you would like to work and talk with the firefighters their. most will be receptive to you and willing to give advice. Ask if they have a "ride along" program where you can see hands on more about the work.

Good Luck
