Any Final Fantasy fans here?

I've played FF XII on my PS3 but haven't finished it, our basement was flooded so I haven't been able to play for over 6 months 🙁 I'm just about to finish FFIII on my DS though. I also played and finished FF Tactics Advance on my DS. I've been thinking of setting myself the goal of finishing every FF game. That is I - XII not every port and clone too! Wonder how long that's going to take!

FF6 was pretty mediocre to me. Everything was pretty straight forward...except for that one event. Play FF7 cause it's just badass. Also branch off into other square RPGs. Xenogears is still one of the best.

hell yes FF7 is my all time favorite...and I've been gaming for 20+ years.

Make it your next priority...It costs $50 on ebay, but is worth every penny (and then some)!!

Who is this guy that thinks FF6 is mediocre, get outa here.

Op, FF4 is being remade for the DS, also FFTA2 is coming out for DS. MMMmmmmmmMMM

Dragon Quest games are WAY underrated here. But, I'm not surprised since FFVII is so OVERRATED. The SNES Final Fantasy's are superior to any that were on the PSX.

ChronoTrigger > FF

How long would it take? A very, very long time, considering each game is a minimum of 40 hours, and technically FFXI never ends.

My favorites were II and III (no, not IV and VI...I owned a SNES, and it clearly said II and III on the game you snobs). II was revolutionary, it really changed the RPG, but III was a lot more in depth - Chaoz obviously didn't do the TONS of side quests, and to say it is straight forward is insane, literally you can do the 2nd half of the game in any order you want.

FFVII was fun, I hate to say "overrated" because then people assume it was bad, which it wasn't - great game, but I would still put II and III ahead. I just finished X, it was a love-hate thing. The story was great, battles were a lot of fun....but there were certain aspects of that game that pissed me off so much, that I'm considering not playing X-2 out of spite. I quit the game 3 different times, only to pick it up later out of the desire to finish it, not because I really enjoyed it anymore.

Also, classics like the original FF for NES can't be ignored, I also really enjoyed FF Adventure on game boy, although that was more out of the Secret of Mana line than Final Fantasy. Speaking of which, you should play Secret of Mana too.

It is not snobby to call them 4 and 6, especially since 2 and 3, the real 2 and 3s from japan have been remade or ported. So if you say you've played 3, I'm going to ask if you played the original or the DS remake and not even think about 6. Its bad enough they fucked up the numbering scheme to begin with, no need to continue to do so just out of stubbornness.

Yeah it's not being a snob, it is correcting something that causes confusion.

I used to love FF games, until my time for gaming dropped dramatically and I just couldn't spend the 2 hours just watching dialog and cutscenes.

Yeah pretty much... all 6 of the pre-Playstation Final Fanatasies have been re-released in the US with the original titles, so now you have two games in the US called Final Fantasy II and two called Final Fantasy III. Better to just use the Japanese numbering for clarity.

You can call it IV and VI...I don't care. Its when people correct someone for saying II and III that they are snobs. I'll continue to do it cuz I owned FF II and FF III, I did not own a remake or release with a different number. They are two of my favorite games of all time, and yes, I am going to be stubborn and continue to call them by their original names.

But technically the original names were Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI 😛.

Oh and FFVII isn't a bad game... just quite overrated. I think some may hold it dear because it broke their Final Fantasy cherry where my first was FFII/IV (used both naming conventions to keep ya'll happy! 😛). One thing I did notice is that after FFVII, I think some of the music went downhill. The music tends to be great for me if I can literally picture the game when I think of a tune from it. Some of the memorable music from the FF games are the boss battle music (called Battle 2 if I remember correctly) from FFII/IV, Forever Rachael from FFIII/VI and Those Who Fight Further (also called Still More Fighting) from FFVII. There's more than those, although I think FFIII/VI has the most memorable songs.

Chrono Trigger also has the whole great music thing going with it and what's amusing there is that was kind of just a project that Yasunori Mitsuda was thrown at because he complained about being a back-up guy for the FF games behind Uematsu.

I enjoyed VII more than VI. The FF purists tend to stack VI above VII, but VII had so much more content. It was a better game, with an arguably worse story. Either way, play them both.

play FF1, 4, 6, see if you can find copies of Dragon Warrior 3, and 4, and was it 5 or 6 that was godlike?
Chrono trigger and chrono cross are also both excellent, Xenogears as well

Actually, FF Adventure WAS a Secret of Mana game (in Japan). It was SoM 1 in Japan, SoM2 was released here at SoM 1, and SoM 3 was only released in Japan. There is a great SoM 3 translation available.

I must agree with some that FF VII is by far the best in the series, and I have played FF I, FF III, FF IV, FFVI, and FFXII (missed other ones because I didn't have a PS2 at that time, catching up now with my PS3).

FF IV was great, I think it was the first in the series to make a huge leap but not because it was the first one on the SNES. FF VI shifted into another gear and it was heads and shoulders above FF IV, and the epitome of FF series was FF VII. FF XII isn't very interesting IMO, and FF III on the DS was just absolutely horrid. I am looking forward to FF IV remake on the DS though.

Secret of Mana was really good, as was Chrono Trigger. Dragon Quest series are good too. I still have my DQ VIII sealed... too many games to play, so little time.

6 has better music, better characters (shadow, guaaaaaaaaaauuuua, terra, sabin, mog), a cooler summon system (espers), a better story, a cooler bad guy (Kefka and Ultros), a better ending, a sprite based graphics system that aged better than 7's 2d/3d hybrid clusterfsck. AND A CASTLE THAT MOVED UNDER DESERTS.

FF "purists" pfft. If you honestly played FF6 before playing FF7 and still think FF7 is better I'd be surprised. The reason I say that is that I think there are a lot of FF7 fans who simply didn't play the previous games and now have difficulty going back to a fully sprite based game. They probably wouldn't rate FF4 in front of 7 either, but I would.

I did play 7 first, but I happily went back to sprite based graphics to play it. I loved the SNES. I agree the story may have been better, but the characters, bad guy(s), graphics (were revolutionary when 7 came out imo, even with 2d/3d setup) all came together in a perfect package. Not to mention, there were countless ways you could extend the life of the game with extra bosses, chocobos, materia, etc. I just found 7 to be a better game overall. Though, it's been 10 years since I've played either.
