I'm interested to learn how 3D mapping helps farmers. Anyone here have any experience with this kind of thing?

How does it help with crops? Insects? Irrigation?

I'm very curious.

3D mapping in what aspect? I see absolutely no use in it (unless we're talking growing on hillsides or something where shading and such could come into play).

Even irrigation is pretty two dimensional.

I'm sure 3D would only enhance planting & harvesting. Check this video out - Autosteer by John Deere:

Good explanation here:

They have farm drones with neat stuff like Tetracams with NIR filters for doing vegetative indexing of fields: (drainage scouting)

OP, check out Aeryon for one example:

Gizmodo has a neat article on different farm bots, including a couple aerial drones:

I've seen some pretty neat mushroom picking machines being produced in the Netherlands, it's worth it for large scale cannery operations. This one is semi-automated, it grades for size, cuts and weighs the baskets and likely wraps/labels/packages as well.It would easily eliminate 10 positions at our farm if it was configured that way (our layout is much different).

Is there a special school to learn how to give the morning farm report? Or was there a patriarch of the morning farm reporters, that gave them their distinctive delivery?
