Any experience with this tyre.. Sumitomo HTR200 tyres?

Looks like it got decent reviews from customers at Tirerack. What kind of car will these tyres go on? What is your driving style?

Its going on a 1994 Toyota Tercel with 13" rims.. I am a little more than an average driver. I do drive a lot of miles, and I do have a tendency to push the limit when going up curves. Hence i want something with little more traction available when needed. Presently I am running 145/70R13.. its too narrow.. stock is 155 or 145.. either way its too narrow for curves, especially when its wet. I can slip and slide very easily when its wet. A wider track will help a lot.

People like the Sumitomo's and i know someone who has it.. just that i have my mind on the Yokohoma Avid Touring...
I might just end up going with the Sumitomo.. and give it a shot.. after all its got to be better than the ones i got now.

Screw it.. if i dont get the news that Yokohoma are available for install today, I am going with Sumitomo.. though it says its a summer radial.. so it will perform good in the dry.. question is how does it perform in the wet. The design does look attractive enough to perform good in the wet.

Give the Sumitomo's a try...they sound like decent high-performance rubber for the money. At least your tires are 13"...I just got done placing an order for some Bridgestone Potenza S-03's in 225/45/17 for $170 a pop! :Q But they're supossed to be the ABSOLUTE best high performance tyre on the market right now so I should have fun with them!

25 Mile UPDATE:

So I drove it for 25 miles and this is my short review of the Sumitomo HTR 200 tyre.
I got to the store (discount tyre center) about 5:20 and by 5:45 i had my four brand spanking new tyres installed. I backed out of the hanger and put it in first gear. Immedately the wheels spun and my first impression was oh no, another tyre that cant handle the first gear torque. However being a new tyre I knew that the tyre oils were probably responsbile for it. I got out of the dealers parking lot and the first thing I noticed that it was very smooth, very much unlike the old tyres. The tyres seem to grip the road very well until high acceleration. I then proceeded down near my college to a street that has lots of wide sweeping curves. I conqured them with no problems. The first thing i noticed at the curves was that it was dead on accurate, no more stepping off the gas just to regain traction. The car held those curves with no problems and was asking for more speed, hadnt i not passed a cop waiting on the side I would have very much done so. Regardless of that lack of high speed testing it did very well for a 45mph curvey road.

After this i took it on the freeway. The tires are much quieter than teh earlier tires, but do have a bit of pronounced road noise. I guess that will disappear once its totally broken in. The tires seem to smoothen out the bumps on the road, though a few larger ones do get through. For all in all I am satistifed with freeway driving. Being a new tyre I couldnt push it too much into a sharp curve but at 55 mph it seemed to hug the curve very well. Grip seems to abundant on this tyre.

Back on city street again I was marvelled at how sharp I could now take a turn without hearing a squeek from teh tires. Something I had got so used to in the past.

Over all i find this tyre a very good deal for $43 a peice + mounting fees. Over all I paid something like 220 for a set of 4.

More reviews as I get more miles into the weekend.

Glad you like them! 🙂 Can't wait to try out my own when my new rims show up next week.

Nope. Both the S-01 & PZero Rosso are better.

And why The_good_guy, might I ask you spell tire tyre when you are from California?

Weren't the S-01's discountinued? That's one reason I went with the S-03.

Flat> I was educated in two different countries and two different systems.. hence i sometimes spell the british way and sometimes the american way.

I'm not even sure the S-01 is availible in the USA, its a tyre thats very similar to a pavement rally tyre. It has incredible grip in the dry, and is suprisingly good in the wet also. S-03 is a little more mainstream but its pretty good. Dont use Pilot Sports though, horrible in the wet.
