They had professional douchebag and sack of excrement Martin Shkreli on the news talking about it this morning, saying most people are covered under insurance and shouldn't be impacted.
There aren't many people in the world that I wish would just drop dead, but...

well shit if thats the case, then they should have spiked the price 10,000%, after all its covered under insurance and the consumer would not be impacted...

Hmmm... I didn't realize the Americans were being shafted so badly for epi-pens. They've remained reasonably priced here in Canada from what I gather (as confirmed by those posted articles).

Mind you I don't follow this closely since I have no reason to carry an epi-pen around. Luckily, so far it's looking good for our young kids too. No peanut or seafood allergy.

That is because prices for medications and such are controlled in Canada. So whatever is cheap for you make it more expensive for us.

No, no, they've put a lot of money into making it more valuable. For realsies. Scout's honor. Plus it was based on old 20th century pricing. See, they're really forward-thinking, and just jumped it straight on to 23rd century pricing.

after insurance it's free for me when i use that 100$ coupon

That maybe but Mylan is still gouging insurance companies and today's fix of helping more families with high deductibles (such as myself) is a band aid that allows Mylan to still gouge people without a high deductible health plan.

If insurance companies are gouged, we're all gouged. They'll always make as much money as they want. If they lose it somewhere(predatory drug prices, hypochondriacs, needless tests...), they'll take it from someone else. Surprise! You haven't used your insurance the last five years, but we're raising your rates 20% cause fuck you.

http://www.nationalreview.com/artic...heather-bresch-hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders

Of course, Hillary Rodham Clinton has decided to make a federal case out of this, as has her primary rival, sometime Democrat and full-time socialist Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, i.e., the usual bulls—t from the usual orifices. Mrs. Clinton demanded an immediate reversal of the price hike, and Senator Sanders produced the usual flatulence about greedy executives.

...

These people are parasites. They make: nothing. They create: nothing. They produce: nothing. But they feel perfectly justified — they positively glow with moral frisson — standing between the people who create and build and the people who benefit from those creations. And they don’t just stand there: They stand there with their hands out. I don’t know how much Heather Bresch has in the bank, but without checking, I’ll bet you five dollars it is a good deal less than the Clintons have piled up in “public service.”

Thought experiment: Your child is dying. Who do you go to for help? Sanders? Clinton? Or one of the research scientists who made the EpiPen possible?

There are at least 2 competitors on the market to the epipen that are much cheaper, are they not as good?

Article describes why Epi-pens have become so expensive in the US, while staying at around CAD$100 each in Canada.
TL;DR: Because they can. Meanwhile Canada regulates prices, so the distributor can't increase prices there.

There's only one competitor (Adrenaclick). At best it's not well known, but I'm not aware of any issues with it.

Problem lies with this asinine government namely the FDA that doesn't allow other companies to make a competitor. One company was shut down and the other couldn't make it or some damn thing.

The FDA has time and time again stifled free enterprise in the pharmaceutical industry.

The EPA, DOJ, IRS, FCC, FDA. They're all fuck-ups!

Not true at all. From the numbers given in the other post, the company is just price gouging.

The real problem is corporate capture of govt regulatory agencies. Do away with the FDA and no company would want to invest in r&d because there will be a $2 chinese epipen clone that works half as well some of the time.

pick one:
option 1. lobby to require the pen in schools, reduce price appropriately for mass production, enjoy profit
option 2. raise price a huge amount

yes we are all aware of the ripple effect.

The fact of the matter is, they succeeded in doing a targeted strike where people dont see the gouging until insurance coverage got a lot crappier recently for some people. Only recently with social networks + more people with out of pocket costs did the pot boil over to finally hit mainstream media.

Write your precious little opinion on a piece of paper, crumple it up into a little ball and jam it far, far up your ass where it belongs.

And for the record. Every time you quote me it's always assery. So stop being an ass.
