I'm trying to bid on this watch and the seller mention about emailing him for special discount. In the email he said that I would get a $15 discount if I pay by personnal check rather than money order. Why would he prefer personnal check over money order. Think this is a fraud. So far all the bidder seems to have zero feedback. Is this his way of driving the price up?

Email safeharbor about it...though if it's fraud, I don't know why he'd rather have a personal check instead of a money order as it's easier for you to get your money back with a check...Maybe he's looking to do some bank fraud? 😕

I agree totally !

I'll contact safeharbor and see what happen. Those watch run from $2000-$3000 easily. It would be a bargain at those price. I think those are just fake.

ya iwouldnt either. i've been selling on ebay for 2 years now, and well 0 feeedback thats just bad. like i even risked it on my last purchase guy had 21 positives and owned an online business and i got a laptop. his suppliers ran out, and it took 2 weeks, but he kept his word bought the laptop at a store at a loss and sent it. but i think i was lucky a lot of others wouldnt have done that.

also dont buy things like watches , and sunglasses on ebay. there are a lot of fakes . lots of people dont take paypal because of paypal fees. i dont think it necessarily means he wants to rip you off as it would be easy torip someone off with paypal also. i still dont get why he wants a check over a MO

If you are really interested and want it, you could try to ask the guy to do iEscrow (or whatever they changed their name to). They hold your money so you have time to inspect and everything.

I strongly agree.

Man, don't even think about doing this deal with that seller on his terms. Something is vewy, vewy fishy.

WTF would you take a PC over a MO? It takes 7-10 days longer to clear.

Here's what i'm betting.

He uses your check, runs it thru a scanner then thru some chemicals. he blanks out the check, and scans the sig onto the check again, this time passing it off as a $4000 check to someone else.

I tell you why some people want Personal Checks over Money Orders. Anyone with cash can purchase a money order. Money Orders can even be cancelled. Very hard to trace someone who basically pays cash.

If someone pays by Personal Check and they bounce anything over $500, they can be charged with a Federal Felony in many States.

Make any sense?

Not to mention if you look at the bidding history, it totally looks like shill bidding.

I've never had the opportunity, but as kami333 pointed out, escrow is probably a smart idea for any auction over 5 bills.

I would never buy a watch from a guy with +20 feedback! 😉

well, he can get your bank account number as well as the routing number off of the check...there's some places online where that is all that is required to make payments on something...

Sure does. I'd walk away from this "deal".

thank everyone for their opinion. I think I'm gonna stay away from this bid. I can't believe most of the bidders in their doesn't have any feedback at all.

I smell TROLL!!!!!!!!!!

Personal check means he can get your account number and WIPE YOU OUT!!!

Ah...very good idea.

Hey, I also have a good idea. If you really want the watch, why not open up a free checking account at Washington Mutual (they're free) *solely* for the purpose of getting this watch. Put exactly as much as the check is for in the account + $1 and then send it to him.
