Hi all,

I'd like to insert my DVD and press a button to store it on my HDD with DD or DTS in some easy way.

I hope to get in result 2-3 GB file instead 4-6 GB mpeg2

Any one doing that or know how to do it in EASY way?
I know that encoding may take about 5 - 10 hours.

tnx

so far the easiest and best quality i have used is with Nero Re-Encode (Nero 7). I too would like so more options though.

If yer PC has the pep for playback it certainly is preferable to encode to AVC and Nero Recode can do so easily and quickly (especially with recently added dual-core support) but alas, Nero Digital also implies encoding AC3 to AAC which then requires decoding on the PC or specialized hardware or real-time encoding back to AC3.

AVC/AC3 can be forced to MP4 or a non-industry standard container such as MKV could be used. Another option is the relatively new AVCHD standard from Sony & Panasonic which is meant exactly for AVC/AC3 and may remain playable on standard hardware (BD and perhaps HD-DVD?). Perhaps there is a simple container tool available in which case the usual schtuff could be used for the decrypt and AVC. Alternatively I'm sure easy integrated software will be available for a price (except for the decrypt part).

My preferred method is to use DVD Decrypter for the rip, and then use Lathe (which is worth every penny of the $5 I paid for it) for mobile device conversions to XviD MPEG 4. I can't stand watching DivX at home, but for those who really want it, AutoGK is a tool I've heard good things about.

A trick to lower the file size of your rip is to open up the VOB in something like IFOEdit and then strip out the extra languages. You won't halve the file size, but you'll get it down somewhat.

thank you every one for reply.
looks like no easy encoding so far to get AC3 in MP4. :-(

p.s MP4 != MPEG4. MP4 is H.264. MP4 encoding takes hours for encoding.

Actually, no. H.264 or AVC is MPEG4 Part10. MP4, or MPEG4 Part14 is a container format used mostly for audio/video data, but can contain other data types as well.

How long it takes to encode is dependant on the media file itself, the encoder used and settings and host PC.

Oh, to the topic itself, it doesn't get much easier than Moonlight OneClick Compressor, or Nero Recode...and yes higher resolution takes time. If you have an X1xxx ATI card, the AVIVO video converter is simple also.
