Any DVD +RW that can write more than 4.7 gig?

No that is not right... they did not "limit" it to 4.7G, that is the standard for DVD Level 5
(Single Sided - Single Layer) media.

Many commercial DVDs are mastered using Dual Layer recording, to allow for more than 4.7Gig on a side,
but that is much harder (and more expensive) to pull off for a DVD Recordable drive. That is why
the current crop of drives will not support dual-layer recording, although there is work being done
to try and create consumer-level drives and media that is capable of doing so.

What does exist right now is media that allows recording on both sides of the disc
(Double sided - single layer), which gives you a little over 9 Gigs of capacity.
That is probably more useful for data storage than for backup copyies of your movies.

I've been wrong before (no really 😀) but I thought standard was 2.6GB and 5.2GB .
That's DVD-RAM you're talking about, and by the way, the most recent DVD-RAM drives do 4.7 GB single-sided/9.4 GB double-sided (along with 2.6 single-sided/5.2 double-sided).

By the way, for all of the technologies, 4.7 GB is incorrect actually. It's 4700000000 bytes, which is a bit more than 4.3 GB.

Those are DVD-RAM standards. Though DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW have a capacity of 4.7GB, the actual writable capacity is under 4.4GB (around 4.37GB).
