Any dual processor users here?

OK, I'm panting for the AMD760 chipset and I can't stand it anymore. MUST...HAVE...NOW!!! :D

I'm saving up some money this summer so that I can make the dive for an AMD760 board, dual Durons, and DDR SDRAM.

Anyway, top my point. How many here are running dual processors, and what operating system are you using (WinNT, Win2k, Linux)? What speed are they, what motherboard, etc. Also, why do you have dual CPU's and what apps do you use that take advantage of the second processor. Also, can you post some scores of what kind of performance you get in single chip vs dual chip mode.

I know that's a lot to ask, but I want to get an idea of what I can expect when moving from a single chip to dual monsters :)

I'll be basic for thats all I know.

First off. My system Specs

Abit BP6 w/ C400@450 (got some early c400s)
256 Megs Infienion PC133
running Win2K
With 2 2GXP 18 Gigs in Raid 0

Sole purpose of this machine is RC5. Now if Powerleap can get the real fcpga adapters working.

Programs that I know that use the 2nd processor are photoshop, quake 3, and the d.net client. There might be more but none that I use regularly.

Personally, this system can handle a lot more than what my friend's can handle. It might just be my bias but I can do more on this system than he can on his.

CPU(s): Dual PII 400 x 1MB cache Xeons
Mobo: Supermicro S2DGE
RAM: 256MB Mushkin PC133 ECC RAM (2 sticks)
Case: InWin IW-Q2000, dual 300W Hot Swappable Power Supplies
HD: Dual Maxtor DM40+ 30.7GB in Software RAID 1
CD ROM: Toshiba 32X
Video: Viper 770 Ultra
Sound: Ensoniq VIVO 90
Speaker: Some generic things
NIC: 3Com 3C905C-TX
OS: Linux Mandrake 7.1
Monitor: Generic 17"

Mostly runs server apps: ProFtpd, SAMBA, some game servers, etc. Runs nicely. The cache helps under heavy load, though I've never noticed the CPUs pegged by anything.

I, too am waiting for an AMD 760DP based motherboard. Though I am planning on going the Thunderbird route. I have a connection to someone at AMD, he can buy their products for cheap! :)

I went from a Dual 580 Mhz Celeron to a single Celeron after my BP6 died. I am really missing that second processor, it mainly helps when you are running more than one app at once. As soon as Duron Socket A boards come out I'm going straight back to SMP.

PC Power & Cooling 300W power supply
80MM intake fan, 80MM exhaust fan
Triple fan hard drive cooler for hard drive
Triple fan hard drive cooler for extra case cooling
Dual fan hard drive cooler for extra case cooling
256MB Micron ECC (2x128)
IBM 9.1GB LVD, 2MB cache hard drive
Mitsumi 1.44MB floppy drive

Epox KP6-BS with 2 PIII-500, 384MB RAM Triple boot WinNT4, Win2K & Win98SE

Abit BP6 with 2 Celeron 300 @464, 128 MB RAM, Windows 2000 Server

Epox KP6-BS with 2 Celeron 300 @464, 128 MB RAM, Windows NT4 Workstation

Tyan 1832DL with 2 Celeron 300 @450, 96MB RAM, Windows 2000 Pro

These are all cracking RC5 while performing work with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Pagemaker, MS Office 2000. They all seems faster than a single PIII 500 on Abit BH6, 256MB RAM using Windows 98 when running these programs.

Muerto,

Actually I built it because I'm learning Linux. RC5 is an added bonus.:)

PS: Does anybody know if the Celery 566 is SMP capable? A pair at 850 would make a nice upgrade.:D

Russ - they have been experimenting, but no luck with the C566's yet. Abit is supposed to be coming out with a board to replace the BP6. I'm also looking forward to a SMP AMD solution.

My dual system:

Abit BP6
2xC400 (never tried to overclock, C400's were $40 each)
Velocity 100 video card (V3 8 meg)
128 meg Mushkin budget P100 (bus is running @ 66 anyways)
Dlink 10/100 NIC (same as Russ uses)
RedHat Linux 6.2 workstation install (may replace with server install, I didn't realize that inetd is not installed on the workstation install, but I did want X-windows and Gnome).

This is my fooling around machine to teach myself Linux and C programming. I'm starting to get into GTK+/Gnome programming as well. I run two instances of SETI and crank out WU @ 18 hrs each CPU (about 9 hours a WU).

dual 466 celerons at 583
asus v6600 deluxe
soyo sy-d6iba2/uw2 scsi onboard
quantum atlas 18 gig uw2 scsi drive
ibm 9 gig uw2 scsi drive
256 megs pc100 micron sdram
sblive value
realtek nic
creative 2x eide dvdrom
yamaha 2260 scsi cdrw

running winNT 4.0 server
apps used are photoshop, lightwave, premiere, msvs, q3a, rc5, media cleaner pro. awesome for multitasking, and great for the bragging rights =P for scores, it's kinda hack, but my dually converted to single got mopped in photoshop with a g3 400 powerbook with same ram and it had a slower hard drive. when i went dual, well, my celeries pimpslapped the mac. heh.

2 Celeron 400 on a W2k BP6 with dual screens.
No special apps, but I love to do more than 3 things at a time.
No benchs either, but I managed to encode a 100MB video while driving my GT1 in the Alps ;)
Did I hook you up?

Now, when are the DualDurons coming out?

Russ, according to Intel (and a couple of minor review sites out there), the Celery II's will not do SMP. I have yet to see this be confirmed or disproven by a reputable site. Are you listening Anand, Mike and crew???? :)

Russ, you'd instantly gain millions of adoring fans if you were able to get Celery II's running in SMP :). I tried to do a quick search on Intel's website but couldn't find the link to the page that says that Coppermine Celerons are not SMP capable -- I know it's there though, I've seen it.

I know people have tried to use the powerleap adapters to put the celeron II in BP6's, but that doesn't seem to work, it will only recognize one at a time.

Can't wait to be able to run dual Durons though.... that would be sweet. Speaking of which, are there ANY KT-133 boards out yet that will allow switching the multiplier?? Anyone know?
