screw lord of the rings...anyone out there a fan of dragonlance? 🙂
i'm just starting to re-read the original chronicles...we need a movie for this!

Yeah, i'm a huge fan of Dragonlance too. First time i ever cried reading a book was when XXXXX died.

EDIT: didnt want to spoil it for anybody.

You know, i never got into his books (but then again i didn't really get into Jordan either)... i think it's because by the time i got to reading them, i'd outgrown the fantasy fiction phase.

<< Yeah, i'm a huge fan of Dragonlance too. First time i ever cried reading a book was when Flint died. >>

I actually couldn't hold my tears back when Sturm died either.

Same thing with the last chapter of LotR.

And no, I'm not that sensitive 🙂

That's Sturm

and these are major spoilers yo

luckily i read these books all ready or i'd be insanely pissed...

chronicles, legends they were pretty good...but has anyone read 5th age by jean rabe...the books make me want to puke...i read a dawning of a new age...it's such a bad book...i mean really...it is awful...

and i have to agree with kelvrick, martin is one of the best

martin's works are in just a whole other league...you can't even compare the books...they rae that different....

although my favorite char. of all the fantasy books i've ever read would still have to be Raistlin Majere.

I loved the original series and the book about Huma but I didn't really care for some of the other series. Its a toss up which series I'll take with me next week for my trip to Dallas. And my girlfriend wonders why I keep so many books I've already read.

I bought the Annotated version of the Chronicles trilogy which has Weis and Hickman's comments on the side of the pages as you read. It's all three books in one hardback edition. The comments are very interesting, gives you a sense of how the story was developed and how it relates to the pen and paper adventures the books were based on.

Never read Martin, what books has he written? What kind of genre?

When I was 14/15(1991) I read every book written in the series up to that point. Classic stuff, esp. the first 6(Chronicles/Legends).

I love Dragonlance! 🙂 It's the only thing I've been reading since the middle of the summer

<< First time i ever cried reading a book was when Flint died. >>

Hehe, I cried when any major character died.. esp Tanis.. that was the worst

I've been so obsessed with getting my hands on every word of Tolkien's work (and now finally i have ever single book published by him or his son), that I haven't tried any other fantasy. I guess I haven't bothered cause I figure it would all pale in comparison to what JRR did. ANyone recommend me some books to start out with?

Has anyone ever read the Sword of Truth series by Goodkind, excellent read. I saw that the latest installment was out, "Pillars of Creation" I think is the name, I was going to pick it up but I am in the middle of reading through the LOtR for the first time. Will definitely pick it up once I am finished however.

Buy it, it's the best book in the series. 😉

ahhhh, you guys spoiled it for me (and i'm sure i spoiled it for others). I haven't read the books in like 15 years, and was going to again... i didn't even remember that Tanis and Sturm died. Only reason why i remember why XXXXX died was because of XXXXXX reaction to it all. Come to think of it, i don't even remember much of what happens in the book. Definitely going to have to pick up The Annotated Chronicles suggested by AmigaMan.

Kami, start with this:

Dragonlance

Personally, i prefer it over LoTR as well... but i think it may have been because i was also playing AD&D at the time, so i could relate very well to the book.

Anyways, i'm probably going to read LoTR again first, just because the movie is coming out. Dragonlance is awesome though, i just love the friendship and comradeship of everybody. When i read the first 10 pages of the book, i knew it was going to be awesome (after years apart, friends meet for the first time in a field... brilliant).

EDIT: took out spoiler information.

Has anyone ever read the Sword of Truth series by Goodkind

First book was great. The second book still keeps me interested. Third book... couldn't quite finished it. I guess the main characters did not develop fast enough for me or that it seems like a re-hash of the same story with different names for the bad guys. Maybe one of these days I will re-read the whole series from start to finish.

great books. Im on Blood of the Fold, 3rd in series and I think its good so far.

As for dragonlance i think the Chronicles were the best books ive ever read. I couldnt put them down. I then let all my friends borrow them and they were the same way. Whenever I saw them they were reading. It has been quite interesting.

😀

Dragonlance was awesome, I must have read it like 10 years ago. Loved the Raistlin character, very memorable.

Speaking of Weis and Hickman, anyone read the Death Gate Cycle (I think that's what it was called).

I remember really liking those, but can't remember exactly what they were all about.

Read Chronicles, Legends too, but no other DragonLance.

Yeah, i read the Death Gate cycles... still have the books actually, can't quite remember what they were about either.

Why the fvck did I read this thread? I haven't read Chronicles in about 15 years and I forget most of it and now all I see is this one died, that one died. Now I don't feel like re-reading it. :|

I would've shrieked aloud if I hadn't already read the books. I usually don't even go into forums on whatever topic if I haven't read/seen/played it before.

I read 5th Age; I actually thought it was decent...😕

I'll never forget when Sturm (Sr.) died facing the dragon all on his own. Then all the guys that died in Dragons of Summer Flame... 🙁

Gonna read Dragons of a Fallen Sun next. Good stuff?

DragonLance is the best. I have read every book to date. I started reading them when i was stationed in Germany. Reading those books and living in the "Hansel & Grettle" area of the Hunsruck really fit.

If you havent read "Dragons of Summer Flame" yet. GET IT

also if you want a really good source for fantasy books go here

www.wizards.com

if you click on the books link at the top and select DragonLance you will find a really great chronology listing of all the series.

i loved dragon lance, i read most of the when i was 15-16, never read the most recent books

right now from what i remember the best series were

chronicles then Elven Nations then Heroes (the ones with huma and kaz) then legends.

Btw tanis doesn't die in the chronicles saga
here's the list of books

but since it's already spoiled, he dies one of the other first story levels
