I'm thinking about switching from DirectTV to Dish for the extra HD channels and cheaper HD-DVR.

I just read about ClubDish: basically you send me a referral and once I sign up you get a $5 credit on your next 10 bills. If I sign up I'll use the one that the first poster here sends.

GET THE GIFT CARD:
Get a ClubDISH instant gift certificate online or call 1-888-920-GIFT (4438) to have a gift card sent to your home.

BE A HERO:
Tell your friends how great DISH Network is and give them a ClubDISH gift card! Remind them that when they sign up for DISH Network services with a ClubDISH gift card it will get them added benefits such as FREE Activation.

REAP THE REWARDS:
Once your friend?s service is active for 31 days you?ll get:
? $50 in credits ($5 a month for 10 consecutive months) (up to 5 referrals per year)

And with your first referral-
? A certificate for a free DishMOVER (a $99 value)
? 5 FREE DISH Network Pay Per View coupons
Your ClubDISH benefits are valued at over $160

What your friend gets:
An exclusive offer available ONLY to your friends through ClubDISH.

Any opinions or suggestions are also welcome. Based on my research DirecTV and Comcast can't compete on price or with the amount of channels offered.

I've got two of them sitting right in front of me. PM me for the #.

As far as the service goes, it's been excellent. Tons of HD channels and the picture quality is great.

Only complaint is that I can't get HD local channel broadcasts like I could with Cox cable.

I probably would've switched if they didn't make you pay up front for the HD-DVR. Plus, I'm pretty sure they use HD-Lite feeds.

One thing to keep in mind is that there is an 18 month commitment FWIW.

You can opt out of that if you want. I did.

Edit: well, if you sign up the normal way at least.

From the page that I linked:

Digital Home Advantage
Featuring DISH Network Satellite TV for the WHOLE house (up to 4 rooms) with the Digital Home Advantage including:
? FREE Activation (a $49.99 value)
? $49.99 credit on your first bill with DHA 18?
? $100 back in credits with America?s Top 60 Programming
? Pick your package - Pick your price

?Requires 18-month commitment. Early cancellation fee applies.
Offer requires participation in Digital Home Advantage. $100 offer requires subscription to minimum of America?s Top 60 programming; customer must mail in redemption form and copy of bill. Customer will receive a $10.00 credit each month for up to 10 consecutive months. After free period for qualifying movie package, customer must call to downgrade or then-current price for movie package will apply.

According to that the only reason for an 18-month contract is if I want a $49 credit on the first bill. I can easily live without that if that means I won't have a contract.

What if the tv was to "accidentally" fall down a flight a stairs? ;)
