Any difference in quality between DVD X Copy and DVD X Copy Express?

First of all, let me say that it has become, because of my job, necessary to occupy two addresses, so before someones starts getting sanctimonious on me, I'm actually one of the rare few who is 'backing up' his dvd collection, which has surpassed (even I was surprised at this) more than a thousand titles. I would like to have my collection at both addresses and so I've been using DVD X Copy, which is a good app, no loss in quality but after backing up about 50 of my dvds, it's become a little tiring to have 2 discs for every movie.

X Copy Express claims to be able to do this all on one disc every time, but my question is, is the quality as good as the original DVD X Copy?
Not interested in any of the other, more time-consuming alternatives, I just want to know if anyone is using X Copy Express and what they think of it...thanks.

DVDXCopy and Express suck ass! My main reason for saying that is I don't like my DVD backups to have a NEW warning screen imported by the software. You have the regular FBI warning screen and now after you backup your DVDs, you'll have ANOTHER DVDXCopy warning screen. That is just annoying! On top of that, you have to pay for it! Get DVD Shrink. It is free and does a great job of fitting a DVD-9 movie to a DVD-5 disc, and you won't have an extra warning screen imported into your backup DVD. ;)

DVDFab will do exactly what DVDXCOPY will do. DVDShrink will do exactly what DVD X COPY Xpress will do. Both are free so why pay for the software?

Agreed. My main concern was quality, not warning screens...some of these posters should have their own warning screen cautioning others to their maturity level...

So I ask again, and please take into account that although paying for software may be the frontier into which certain people dare not venture (I would think mainly those whose primary source of income is an allowance) I personally don't have a problem with it, personally or financially. I don't regret buying X Copy, the quality of my back-ups is absolutely indistinguishable from the original and its simplicity cannot be beat (and I saw a DVD burned using DVD Shrink and I'm sorry but I was able to tell it was a copy from across the room). So my main question - focus now, people - is how different is the quality of back-ups made with X Copy Express from the quality of those made with the original X Copy?

Again, any relevant feedback would be greatly appreciated...

Well the quality depends on alot. The size of the original main movie and how much express has to compress it to fit on the dvd is the main one. DVDxcopy should be the same as the original because it splits it across more than one dvd and does not compress it. I refuse to buy dvdxcopy because they are responsible for TONS of spam over the years, they sold freeware and now they are treating some of the customers like crap. If you bought the software from a retailer (not from thier website) you don't get free upgrades.

Check out the forums here http://www.doom9.org/ They have a whole section for one click dvd burning software.

The reason you think it is retarded is because your standards are so much lower than mine...of course IMO. ;) The only thing that is retarded is someone that would PAY for freeware and gets the bonus of extra warning footage.

Just for that statement, I'm going to recommend you go out and buy DVDXCOPY AND DVDXCOPY XPress. :) You'll really like it. :)

And let me comment on this...

I like how you are throwing out the attitude and have no freakin' idea on what you are talking about.

Like I said, I think DVDXCOPY XPress is waiting for you at store near by. I'd pick it up tomorrow. :)

Um, as I already said, I did buy X Copy and, again, as I already said, I do like it. I was just curious to know if anyone had any tried X Copy XPress and what they thought of it.
Paying for freeware? Although there are free alternatives, some of which, DVD Shrink for example, I have seen at work for myself, X Copy is simply not one of them, so, again, what are you talking about?

You failed to answer my question or even contribute something remotely useful and for that, might I suggest you pay a visit to the Rage forums...?

He is talking about the fact that DVDxCopy is based on Freeware. You are paying for freeware code that DVDxCopy just developed more to sell.

Go to Doom9.org and you will see comparisons of ALL the one click programs. DVD X Copy Xpress is not held in high regard. CloneDVD and DVDshrink are felt to be superior.

I personally that CloneDVD is worth paying for. The developers have proven themselves over the years. The DVDXCOPY guys have just proven over the years that they are in it for the money and that is it.

Another thing to consider is the fact that it is widely rumored that DVDXCOPY Xpress uses the DVD95Copy transcoding engine. So why pay DVDXCOPY when you can get it straight from the source. The DVD95Copy guys have tried to stay on top of the curve on fixing problems.

I'd heard something like that from a friend who spends a lot of time in the Doom forum, thanks for clearing that up. But I did see movies ripped, then shrunk with DVD Shrink, then burned with Nero; we actually had a thing where, once done, he would play it and I would look and determine which one was the original and which was the copy. I was able to tell the copy every time with movies burned using the more popular methods of rip, shrink (if necessary, although a few times it wasn't needed and I was still able to tell) and burning, most times using Nero which never gave us a problem. My friend is a big fan of the freeware touted by Doom9 and elsewhere, and from what I saw they're very good apps, especially since they're free. But the copies made with X Copy I (and him) could not distinguish from the originals, and so my decision was based on our little experiment.
I admit I don't like the unscrupulous history of 321 Studios (now that I'm aware of it), but nor am I big fan of Rambus' past practices, but I like it in my system nonetheless.
Again, thanks for the info...!

Well all the programs like Xpress, DVDShrink, DVD2One, InstantCopy, and CloneDVD are going to result in a loss of some quality. It all depends on what is acceptable for you.

Personally, if the movie is larger than 6 gigs then I use DVDFab to split the DVD just like DVDxCopy does. If it is less than 6gigs then I pick my tool carefully. Anything from 5.5gigs to 6gigs, I use Pinnable InstantCopy. Smaller than 5.5gigs then I use DVDShrink because the loss of quality isn't very noticable.

Anything larger than 6gig just isn't going to look all that great with any transcoding tool like Xpress.

It is all personal preference and how much time you have to put into it. Instantcopy requires a lot of time because of the sizing bug it has. I want my copy to take full use of the 4.38gigs on the dvdr.

I just don't see a reason to support Xpress because there are freeware applications that do just as good a job and there are applications from better companies that do just as good of a job.

I am willing to pay for software when it offers a benefit to me. Otherwise I am going to use freeware if it is available. I puchased instantcopy but it is the only software I have bought for transcoding.

My tools are DVDFab, DVDToolBox, DVDShrink and InstantCopy.
