Great!

I think I have diabetes. Few months ago I had a bad case of dry mouth so I drank tonnes of water...lost 30 pounds and my right eye is blurry as hell.

Boneitiis.

Seriously, go make an appointment with your primary care physician. Get blood and urine tests, have your blood pressure checked, and find out what's going on before its' too late.

He could also buy a 10$ kit at Walgreens are Walmart to test his blood.

On my plan it's only a $30 co-pay to have much more thorough tests done, then have them looked over by a doctor or nurse practitioner. The extra $20 seems worth spending to me.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in April.

Had no clue I had it until I went to the doc and she said I hadn't had blood work done in a long time, lets check it. I'm 35 btw.

That's how I found out.

For awhile I was peeing a lot in the early morning but not sure it was because of diabetes. It stopped happening awhile before I was diagnosed and it's only happened once or twice since I was diagnosed.

It's weird because I'm not like super diabetic or whatever, I don't need insulin but they have me on Metformin.

I guess my levels were a bit high to put into the category for it but every time i test my sugar levels they are within the listed good range, but the diabetic specialist i saw wants me to get them lower.

That sounds more like over diagnosis. Your MD is on a power trip.

If anyone is strapped for cash, has no insurance, or refuses to see a doctor for an A1c test that measures blood sugar levels over time, just go get a cheap blood glucose meter from WalMart for $10-20. Companies like Bayer sometimes offer free meters with 10 strips to get you to try their product.

Check your blood sugars at the following times: 1) waking, having not eaten since the night before, 2) just before each meal during the day and 3) two hours after each meal.

That series of tests will tell you how well your body reacts to carbs/sugars, and how fast your levels drop back down after eating. A single blood sugar test can miss something, especially if you've been fasting when you take the test.

Still, an A1c is the best way to know for sure.

Actually, a simple fasting or the A1C can be inaccurate. Best thing is a 75gram glucose tolerance test, with a blood draw at 2 hours. Most patient's don't do that, because of the 2 hour wait.

Companies do give free glucose meters out with test strips. You can do a glucose tolerance test yourself at home.

I do just recommend seeing a doctor, instead of feeding trolls here. Some of us are giving good advice, but I guess others can't resist.

I just wanted to see if he'd taste his own piss. Heh... I agree that an at home test is more accurate than an A1C.

Trolling to get the guy to taste his own urine?

Think that's funny? We don't.

Problem with tasting your own pee is that there's sometimes things other than sugar in it.....

And if I'm too serious, it's only because I see a lot of patients referred to me with his exact story. "I didn't know I was diabetic, now I'm on four medicines and my sugars are not controlled." If only they've gotten tested earlier, it would be easier to manage.

I'm an endocrinologist (diabetes doctor among other things).

Your symptom of nighttime hunger may be from diabetes. Some early diabetics actually have low sugars 2-3 hours after a carbohydrate rich meal. This is because their body is making insulin late, and that late insulin is acting on the body's sugar and dropping it low. Sounds counter-intuitive but it's actually quite common.

Are you losing any weight for no reason?
Drinking lots of water and peeing a lot?
Peeing multiple times at night?
Feeling very thirsty?
Worsening blurry vision (changing your prescription on your glasses)?

Anyway, don't want to point you the wrong way on some forums, but if you think you may be diabetic, easiest thing to do is to just get a set of labwork done. Simple blood test will tell you. Do it fasting though.
This. Go to the doctor.
is there such a thing as situational diabetes?

i feel like sometimes my pancreas works and sometimes it doesn't
See the above advice - GO TO A DOCTOR. The sooner the treatment begins, generally the better the long term prognosis.
