Look into Enlight; they make some tough cases that have survived people standing on them...

Whatever you get, make sure it's not aluminum. Have you considered building a stand for the monitor to go above the desktop? This would make maintenance much easier to boot because you wouldn't have to move the monitor to get the case out to work on it.

I have one around here that I can jump up and down on. I am 170lb, so I am very confident it would hold any monitor or monitors you would want to put on it. I would be more than happy to part with it for $10 plus actual shipping. I will e-mail you pictures If you want. It is a steel chasis with a plastic bezel. Also the drive cage has 3x5.25 and 1x3.5 for a floppy that you can rotate 90 degrees to be used as a tower or as a desktop. It also has 2x3.5 internal for HDD.

There are quite a few of the old desktop cases out there. It's just that places like newegg don't carry them because they don't sell.
Check the InWin, Enlight and Evercase web sites.

just go to Walmart and get a little 10 dollar pressed wood shelf... put it over the case. Then you won't have to worry about it, and if there are vents on the top, they won't be covered up :)
