I'm looking to buy a new mountain bike for <$300.
I had a Gary Fisher Wahoo but I smashed the crap out of it last summer.
Does anyone know of any good bikes to look at or any good places to look for deals on them?

Things I'd like on a bike:

Grip shifts
18 or 21 speed.
Front suspension (rear suspension if it can be obtained inexpensively.)
Linear pull brakes ?
Aluminum Frame.

I don't know man, Mountain Bikes are like eye glass frames. You don't buy these things online, but you go to a store and try them on and have them adjusted to your needs.
 
grip shifts? i think you need to take "decent" out of the title! 😛

Costco has bikes that might fit your bill.
 
If you plan to ride seriously you want to up your budget to at least $500. The more you spend initially the less you usually spend repairing it. After 8 year my last mountain bike that I paid $900 for had less than $200 in repairs and I rode the hell out of it. My new bike cost more but I have not ridden it enough to judge how well it will hold up but it should do just fine.
