Here's the easiest tip I can give you as a beginner....

Go to a table without many players, a cheap 5/10 uncrowded table.
Hook up with the guy on your side (there is a single person on each side of the table to take your bets....there is another guy that handles the dice. For example set up closest to the money on the right side of the money, your hook-up guy will then be to your immediate left...he is the only person between you and the money) Get to know him and tip him well or call a "house bet" and look him in the eye. He will normally take care of you and tell you what to do.

spidey07, I've tried my hand at craps couple times at AC but still feel like a noob.
How big a bankroll would I need to play $15 min with 5x odds.
It seems to me all the action is in the evenings, but by that time the table mins are up.

Also, is the more players at a table the better the action?

600 bucks. I'm a cheap player, I want a cheap table with max odds. You have to understand that 8-10 bad rolls can kill your bankroll if you don't go back down. work the table. You will have a string of bad rolls, always.

More players doesn't mean more action, more action means players playing. It just means that with multiple tables people will eventually congregate to the table that is winning. If you see a table clapping and yelling go see what is going on.

that's $90 you have on the table for each point. Craps can be EXTREMELY FAST. You could be up or down $500 in a matter of minutes. I once got down $200 in craps while my partner went to take a leak. If you plan to bet that much and play a long time, better bring at least $2000. You've got to be in the game when it gets hot and a couple points are made. IF you lose a couple hundred and quit, it could turn hot and you miss out. You have to ride it out through up and down streaks. Same applies to blackjack. I can play a whole night and get down hundreds, then make it all back a one hot shoe that I'm really betting at.

I used to shoot craps, but they would just splatter and stink to high heaven.

Must have been doing it wrong.

Well said. That's why when the cards/dice get cold you go WAY down. Like 10 dollars per hand/passline down and wait it out. going from 100+ per hand/roll and then going back down is how you stay in the game.

Great link. Shackleford is rock solid:thumbsup:

Yeah, if you want to give the casino your money in the slowest possible way, that's a great read.

Remember, casinos are taxes on people too stupid to understand math. EVERY bet favors the house and no system on earth gives the player the advantage. All the glitz and the glamour and the bright lights and free drinks and the scantily clad waitresses are paid for by people who are too stupid to understand math. If you play in a casino you will lose. The more often you play the more you will lose. The bigger you bet the more you lose.

unless you play poker. your money comes from the other players' mistakes and more than outweighs the small amount the house takes from each pot.

While statistically speaking, if you play craps long enough you are supposed to lose, that isnt really the case. Just like other forms of gambling, the "good" players aren't just on a long lucky streak, they know enough to beat the odds.

If the craps table is going to make 6-8% of the action (using the numbers from above), as long as some idiots are feeding more than 6-8% into the tables then there is plenty of money for you to cash out on. Looking at that bell curve graph on one of the links above, you can see that there will be alot of people feeding alot of money into those tables, if you ride the tide correctly, you can take back a good amount. In my last three trips to Vegas I have won each day at craps. As spidey had talked about, I brink enough to bankroll until things get hot, then I bet big. I can ride a hot hand for an hour and walk away tripling my bankroll. If you play smart enough and weather the storm someone will come in there and get hot. As soon as they are done you walk away and cash out.

I wouldnt say its guaranteed money, it is after all, still gambling. However, its not as failure prone as some seem to think.

Sorry to bump this thread but this is a decent free online practice.

I had my first experience at the craps table the week before Christmas. One day I walked away up nearly $200 but went back and gambled it down to a gain of only $12 (starting with $50 in chips). It was a lot of fun. At first I was just going Pass Line and maximum odds but then got into place bets on 6 and 8. I played very conservatively since it was my first time at the table.
