Looking at doing a trade for the gun below and having trouble getting a lock on it's value as there is so many different ones.

Thanks.

I'm not a Colt expert, but it looks like an older 1991 model with the parkerized finish. Can't tell condition by the picture but I'd say probably around $700-800 for one in good condition.

without more info we can;t be 100% sure. I agree with Schneiderguy in saying that it looks like a 1991 series.

Is it new or used?

Hey guys,

I am waiting for his reply on more info but if it's a 1991 I am not going to do it.

Thanks guys and don't make me leave you in Tijuana again brig.

edit : it's a mark iv / series 80

Those are decent guns. I have one myself, a Colt Officer's model. They could definitely use a little work, better trigger, beavertail grip safety, better sights but they are good, reliable guns once you get some ammo through them and get them broken in.

I figured the kiddies be in school by now ?

:awe:

Why don't you just have it taken to a gun shop and be done with it? Why are you willing to put yourself in a very compromising situation by asking a bunch of computer geeks on a computer forum when you're dealing with MONEY value in GUN trading? "No way buddy I'm not trading for less than X-dollars because some computer geeks on a computer forum on the internet said it's worth that much!"

Why not hit up, oh I don't know, A GUN FORUM?

or take it to a gun shop?

Believe it or not, there are a LOT of gun people on this forum.. More importantly, how would he take a gun to a gunshop if he DOESNT OWN IT?

I guess you have skipped these threads, but if there is a secondary interest to the general computer geekery on these forums, it would be guns.

There's maybe a handful of new threads each month...maybe each week? Tons of gun people here.

Get out.

Looks like a run-of-the-mill Colt Government Model.

I'd say $700-800 in very good condition, $550-650 in decent condition. Colts tend to hold their value very well.

The most important thing is to field strip it and take a look at the feed ramp and chamber throat. If someone took a Dremel to it or otherwise did a shady polish job, stay away. Someone else's problem is NOT what you want to get your hands on in terms of 1911s.

A 1991 and a 1911 are essentially the same firearm. The 1991 was simply an "economy" version of the Series 80 1911. Aside from the different finish and some materials differences (synthetic mainspring housing and trigger, for example) they're effectively the same firearm. No reason to stay away from a 1991 unless you're looking for some of fancier features that were on the more expensive 1911 variants.

Both the 1911 Series 80 models and the 1991 Series 80 models have the same firing pin safety.
