Any colleges have Presidents Day off?

I know tomorrow is Presidents day and all the high schools around here have the day off as well as the Post Office doesn't deliver. However all the universities here don't have the day off 😕

I don't understand it, we get Martin Luther King Day off but not Presidents Day? MLK wasn't a president yet we get his "day" off and not the day celebrating Presidents off? Sounds like reverse-discrimination to me...

Too many fucking holidays. July 4th, Christmas day, and New years day should be the only federally-recognized holidays.

I totally agree. None of these "chump" BS holidays.

I have school tomorrow.

At least I'm not alone.

Technically, there are NO federally recognized holidays. Otherwise, everyone would be paid overtime for working them.

I agree that companies and especially government workers get too many paid holidays though, but I'd add Memorial Day and Labor Day to your list.

These governments want to cut expenses quickly? Start by cutting paid holidays, paid sick leave, and paid vacation.

There is nothing in FLSA that requires any of them.

have the day off tomorrow. however, private schools do this to continually ream their students by offering less for their 30k/yr

I have the day off, but it doesn't mean much because I have mass catching up to do.

I don't have any "catching up" to do, but I do have massive homework to get done.

This semester is the worst one I've had for homework load.

It's not unusual for me to spend 25+ hours every week just doing required homework.

We're like the only people working tomorrow. It's going to be DEAD. Last year think we had 4 calls, and they were all internal tech support calls. Zero external calls, not even internet customers. (we do business internet, not res, and all the businesses are closed).

What's a good movie to start downloading? We'll probably watch it tomorrow. 😛

Do you go to school in the South by any chance? We don't get any holidays off except for MLK, besides the obvious ones like Christmas and Thanksgiving. We have class on Labor Day, and if you take summer classes, Memorial Day and July 4th as well.

Work for a big oil company and don't have tomorrow off. My university doesn't have tomorrow off either although I don't think we get Labor Day or anything off.

I have Monday off for the federal holiday the correct name of which is George Washington's Birthday.

No, George Washington's birthday is February 22.

Monday is the morphodite holiday known as "President's Day, created to give people yet another 3 day weekend.

Wrong.
* This holiday is designated as "Washington?s Birthday" in section 6103(a) of title 5 of the United States Code, which is the law that specifies holidays for Federal employees. Though other institutions such as state and local governments and private businesses may use other names, it is our policy to always refer to holidays by the names designated in the law.

US OPM list of Federal Holidays

Most calendars list the Federal Holidays that were moved to create 3 day weekends as <name of holday Observed> to indicate that the Monday is not necessarily the exact date of the event being marked.

Ah, I see. Well in Michigan, the black population might be high enough for the same effect. Basically all the workers at my school are black, and there would probably be riots about working on MLK day.
