any clues on what's up with windows update site?

tried to access windows update page only to be greeted by this! :Q
using win98 on a home pc running IE5.5SP1 which has worked flawlessly before. :frown:

Ive seen that before... There is an article in the Microsoft knowledge base about a registry entry that effects this. Doing what it said didnt fix my problem though... I rebuilt system and all was well.

What the heck is a root certificate update? Is this some software to search for illegal programs?

SCSIRAID, thanks for your input but the KB article was about using an outdated version of IE5 & so not applicable.
decided to try repairing IE & now it all works again. don't ask me how!
