My friend told me it would take about 15-20 minutes to adjust to a controller for me, but I just have refused to put the time into it (sad, I know). I may soon though as I would really like to play KZ2.

I have played FPS on the computer since the first Rainbow 6. I am accustomed to a KB + M. Anything else just does not feel right to me. I will try the controller again sometime soon.

I use a high sensitivty on a pc also. If I recall correctly I used nearly a 60 for Q3 and for HL DM it was a high number as well. I love quick movements. With a controller I do not seem to get that fast reflex while being able to aim precisely at the same time which I do with a KB + M.

It's going to take more time than your friend told you. I was a long-time PC gamer and bought a 360 two years ago. I was really leery about playing FPSes on a console, too. I suggest you play through a SP campaign or two and then you should be ready for MP games. I played through Halo 3 and then Bioshock as well as some other games. I'd play the occasional MP game and was doing well. Once COD4 was released a month or two later, I was more than adjusted to the controller. It just going to take a little bit of time to develop the muscle memory. Have fun!

I too can't stand shooters on consoles. I make it through them (Resistance, Uncharted, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2), but I definitely enjoy them less than on PC. Using a mouse is just so much more fluid than using an analog stick that I move with one finger.

It isn't even fair when you use that in multiplayer.

Does the mouse on those things move like a PC mouse, IE you need a desk to use it? I just bought a PS3 after being a lifelong PC gamer and the controller isn't as horrible as I was thinking it would be for a FPS, but I don't have all the buttons memorized yet. My friend suggested one of those controllers, but it looks like you need to have a flat surface to use them on.

I have the FragFX, but I don't use it. It comes with it's own stiff mouse pad that you can sit on your leg. The problem is that console games use acceleration on the analog sticks, so using the mouse is going to feel way different from a PC mouse. This thing has some settings you can use to make it better, but it's never felt quite right to me. I end up just using the standard controller.

Are you guys just lazy or something and don't want to learn? I play FPS games on a PC religiously but I'm not one of those people that's like, OMG playing a FPS on anything that's not a KBM is murder!!! Seriously it's not that hard.

well people like to make excuses when they cant get good at stuff quickly.

and for some reason a lot of the PC gaming community have an elitist attitude about PC gaming.

And the fact that a kb+mouse is better. Try to refute that, and you're wrong.

Devs need to stop being lazy, or think its not fair, and let gamers use whatever controller they want. Be it a gamepad, or keyboard and mouse. It can be done, and they need to do it.

Why support something that only like 1% of the installer base are going to use?

Thanks you just saved me $65 :)

I'm not being lazy, I've only had the console for a week and played CoD:WaW2 like 3 times so far. More or less if there was something similar to using a KB/Mouse for the console why wouldn't I look into it since I'm already very familiar with that setup? The biggest thing with the controller is just the amount of buttons to learn which is very different then a KB layout.

More would use it if it was supported properly. But I'm also of the opinion that the controller works great once you get used to it.

All the more reason to not support it. ;) KB+mouse people can play on PC if they don't like gamepads. Where can I go if console games get overrun with KB+mouse people? I don't want to have to switch to KB+mouse to compete, I have more fun with a gamepad.

just bought a 360. will be buying some kind of kb/m device asap. i hate controllers and don't have the time nor patience to adapt to it. will be happy destroying people soon with what i'm used to.

and the "it isn't fair" argument. stfu, please. i've seen PLENTY of people that absolutely annihilate people with a controller. i've had my ass handed to me back in the halo 2 days when i used a m/kb. it's simply what people are used to.

using these devices that map to a mouse aren't what people are complaining about not being fair, they are talking about native mouse support vs controller support.

using an "emulated" kb/m probably hinders your game compared to a controller since console shooters have a lot different implementation since it's on an analog stick and not on a mouse. one small example is the deadzone, you don't have that on native mouse support at all.

or in halo, how you turn vertically slower than you do horizontally.

Before the consoles came out, I do FPS like crazy on the PC, like Quake, Duke Nukem 3D. Halo came out and I had to learn how to use the controllers. That said, it did took me quite a while to get good on the controllers but I would still prefer the KB + M. it would sure be nice if we can do that for the consoles. Too bad that HongKong place got sued where they had neat stuff that u could interchange and modify controllers.
FYI, I also map my forward, reverse, aim to the mouse but I use the KB for my fire, jump and everything else. Don't know if that makes a difference though.

aren't these devices sort of cheating when playing online? seeing as keyboard and mouse > controllers?

Werd. Its nice having a level playing field and knowing I'm getting my ass handed to me with the same controller I'm using.

That's all this is about really, its not about not wanting PC gamers to join us or thinking we're better than them. It's standardization, let the best player who can adapt win. Not the best player who has a $150 mouse and keyboard win. I used a ball mouse on PC up till the bitter end. Never even heard of the laser mice, and always wondered why everyone else was so much better. There's no differentiation of hardware in the console world.

depends on what kind of games you are talking about. you can still get your ass handed to you in street fighter because someone else is on a stick while you are on a pad. and there are many who will build their cars around their wheel that gets much more precision than my build with a pad. for FPS however, i believe the pad is sufficient for now, but only before someone who will create a more accurate pad.

well if anyone thinks they can do better with a joystick on a fighter, what is stopping them from going out and getting one?

there is a reason all these 3rd party "kbm" adapters/controllers aren't known much, because they don't work as well as a controller does, since games are designed with controllers in mind.

i bought the max shooter a few days only to read review after review of the 'deadzone' when it comes to precise movements=[ i'm going to give it a shot but i was reading the xim360.com device works wonders(it's $185 though).

the max shooter won't work with wired headset, have to have wireless.

i'm trying to be optimistic about it.

I'm going to try out a Frag FX v2 I got during Black Friday sales for $30. Hopefully this will help with FPS on a console. Even after practicing, I still just play better with a KB/Mouse.
