Any chance of using Vonage/Skype on DSL w/ only 53k upstream?

Im here at my sister-in-laws place and their DSL is only 105k down / 53k up...

Is there any super throttled version of skype/vonage (or any other VOIP) that would work?

probably not...you can call them up to change the codec you're using (by default it's g711, which is 90kbps, which probably won't cut it with your connection when you take overhead/latency into account).

tell those monkey's to change it to the "medium" codec (g729 i think? i forgot but the medium only uses 30kbps, so that should work well for you providing nothing else is hogging up too much bandwidth).
