FWIW, WinXP has pretty good DOS compatibility. The programs that seem to have the most trouble are those that access the hardware directly (games). I can't assume much about this mail program I don't know, but the networking part of things may cause a little trouble. Now, if the program uses a modem to retrieve the mail, you shouldn't have problems, but if it is supposed to access a network card, things may be a little different.

Again (without sarcasm this time), more help can be provided if more information is provided. :)

Yes, I am impossible to get ahold of. You know, management type through and through :)

I was doing 10 things at once and didnt have time to give you good input.

We have a dos program that we use to track our new customers and keep track of other small details about accounts. Its not our main business software but it is usefull (ok ok, we could do without it). It only touches hardware when we print from it. The rest of the time its just a database. We do run it over the network (sort of). All of the machines have access to it.

I tried to start it after yesterdays XP instal and it did not work as expected. I havent had time to look at it yet. Just wanted to know if there was a small chance I could get it running (still a peer to peer network). The XP machine is using TCP/IP and all the others are still win 98se using netbui. Hope that helps

Dework your best bet would be to try to run the program in Win95/98 compatibility mode.

Im going to in to mess with it in a couple of minutes. The brief glimpse I got yesterday was just enough to let me know it didnt run. Who knows, it might be as simple as re-difing the properties from the icon on the desktop.

Ill try win95/98 compat. mode first thing if the problem isnt obvious. My general question was answered somewhere in those replies though. (dos programs seem to run ok in win xp or something like that).

Again. Thanks for the replies. Even that hate mail one! :) LOL

If your Win9x machines are running NetBEUI, and your Windows XP machine is running only TCP/IP (NetBEUI is an extra tool that you have to specifically install from the CD), you have networking problems that need to be taken care of before you do anything else.

In short order we will be on XP and win 2k machines. This is the "test" machine that we upgraded (the CEOs heheh). The upgrade processess switched his to TCP/IP (something we have to do anyway but not right away). As we upgrade the other machines I assume they will be swiched to TCP/IP by the setup process as well. AND if not, Ill do it.

Only a real man tests new software on the CEOs machine...... "hey what happened to all my icons...." :)
