any cash-rebate credit card suggestion?

Chase Freedom is random with its quarterly rewards, so i am thinking about getting a new credit card. Those airline mileage ones seem enticing with its initial signup bonus, but i much prefer a cash reward one.

I'm using Amazon's Chase credit card right now. You get x4 points on amazon purchases and everything else is comparable to your other high level chase cards. Probably not much diff then Freedom

ack, i too shop at amazon, but probably around 10-20% of total expenditure... not sure if that's worthwhile to get a card aimed specifically at it.

Priceline Visa Signature. 2% on everything. No limit. Can cash it when it reaches $25.

US Bank also has a nice card with 5% on two categories and 2% on the third. To date, the 5% categories and 2% categories have stayed the same....no flip-flopping of categories every quarter like other cards. However, every 3 months, US Bank will email you a link to reselect the categories for the next 3 months. Takes 30 seconds to do it.

I use both for different reasons.

No, you get 3x on the Amazon Chase card.

Since I spend about $30K a year at Amazon and a bunch of purchases elsewhere, this card essentially nets me two free international airline tickets every year.

IIRC, you need 75,000 points to get a $1200 travel voucher, which is the best deal.

I really should sign-up for an Amazon.com CC 'cause it's the only place I shop at other than Costco. I use Costco Business Exec AMEX for everything.

Update: Ok, just got approved for Amazon/Chase VISA. That was fast. I'm gonna be using this card for all personal purchases from Amazon.com from now on

I just got a Costco American Express. 3% back on gas, 2% at Costco and first year of Executive reimbursed so I get another 2% back on Costco purchases.

Or something like that, anyway.

I like my Chase Freedom card, but I agree..the categories are pretty random.

the only one available is Flexperks Travel Signature, one point per dollar, or two point per dollar on Gas, Groceries, and Airline related stuff. $49 bucks annual fee.

This card + PenFed.

i usually just go straight 2% with my fidelity investments reward amex

other cards I carry:
Chase Cash Plus 3% gas, 3% grocery
Case Freedom - 5% categories
Amex Plat - for large purchases only where I want the premium protection (laptop, TV etc)

i use it for EVERYTHING since i get so much stuff at amazon. need new tires? amazon card.

gas, groceries, fast food? amazon card.

clothes shopping, booze? amazon card.

love it. didnt intend to do it that way, but i was out of town on business one day and my bank said they cancelled my card because of a security issue somewhere i had shopped, and it would be days before i got a replacement...so i just started using the amazon card.

I had long ditched my DiscoverCard but recently went back to it for the 5% online purchases this holiday season. Makes me want to spend more which is actually a bad thing, necessary evil. Also they didn't charge foreign transaction fees for when we went to Canada. I may just switch from my Citicard and go back for good. Just wished more places take them.

As for the Amazon rewards card, I didn't like the deal. I spend a lot at Amazon and the conversion for getting free stuff is hardly worth it IMO.

Penfed. $300 signup bonus and 5% on gas, 3% on groceries. Redemption is at $50 intervals.

This. You can also get $25 gift cards (sometimes at 2400 points). I really liked the older Penfed card that simply gave you a statement credit but they cut the points on that one, so I switched.

Well, it wasn't point...it was simply cash back. It was 5% gas, 5% groceries and 1% everything else. Now it's 1% on everything, IIRC. It's still cash back on the statement but much less than it was previously.
AFAIK, it's still 5% cash back on gas, but they did nef the other categories to 0.25%
