Stay away from Legacy, Profile and the like, buy a brand name with less power, Pioneer, Sony, Etc.
The problem is that there are no rules or regulations on car audio amps, the manf. can print anything they want to, truth or not. It is all a numbers game, you can any amp and get outrageous output ratings just changing the imput voltage, rated distortion, channels tested, freq. tested at, etc.
I will say again check out your local specialty dealer, not Circuit City or Best Buy, but "Bob's Car Stereo" they will usually be glad to help you get a little education...at no charge. These guys do this because they love car audio, trust me they aren't doing it for the money. And by the way, the only way I can afford to do an extream system in my Blazer is by using "employee purchase programs"
I can buy one system per year for 10%-30% below dealer cost, about 30% of retail.

Okay I have found a JVC amp this model for only $120... is this a good deal? Sorry for all the inquiries but I really am ignorant on the whole car audio thing and would rather have opinions from Anand's forum than any of the silly car audio forums I have run across. Thanks!

I personally hate sony, jvc, and kenwood amps. Its jus a matter of preference. If ur lookin for an amp for ur highs check out arc audio, xtant..or if ur lookin for something cheaper check out mtx, kicker, or even hifonics. And dashdoc is rt bout the weakest link thing. The reason lower level decks usually have amps is because the manufacturer thinks ordinary people are buying them and intend to use the internal power. The high level decks are more focused toward audiophiles who pretty much all have separate amps for their highs.
