I just got a Zojirushi Zutto coffee maker that is so cool that I'm drinking more coffee each day.

I'm so impressed with it, that I now consider it part of my OC/DC setup. I can't do one without the other.

Wow, this brings back memories...

I was at an Adul organized LAN party three years ago (man, never see that guy around here anymore...) and Shock Coffee was one of the sponsors.

I drank six cans of the stuff in half an hour and was twitching.

It was a really strange experience that I never want to repeat again

However, I did place first in the UT2k3 Tournament that night .

The guy sitting next to me had four cans and was rather wired as well... he took second place.

Coincidence?

Caffeine doesn't taste very good, so I wouldn't expect that stuff to be any good either. Ironically you may be paying a premium for the cheapest crap coffee beans there is, robusta. It contains about 2x as much caffeine as your typical arabica bean. If you really want as much caffeine as possible, go for the lightest roast possible, heat destroys caffeine hence darker roasts have less.

Personally I'm a coffee enthusiast/hobbiest, I prefer straight espresso shots. A good one is so smooth, flavors like chocolate, honey, and so much else. Espresso also contains much less caffeine by volume compared to drip because it's brewed in about 27 seconds. And if I'm not drinking espresso or some kind of espresso derivative, then it's coffee from a french press. I've been roasting my own coffee for two years and it's great.

Me and my buddy were BIG into coffee in HS.
Multiple AP classes + Beast in Beauty and the Beast/ and Head Tech guy.

As in we brought in a coffee pot and would brew 2-3 twelve cup pots. Our idea of "coffee" was to fill the filter. We'd always use that folgers ultra-dark "gourmet" roast...

I was talking to him the other day and he said he'd hit on something. He goes and buys a bottle of caffeine pills, and grinds them up, think mortar and pestle. He then mixes the resulting powder in with this dark guatemalan stuff a friend of ours picks up in 2lb. packages from the place he works.

Haven't tried it yet. Post Show week and AP tests I went into detox. About 3 days of headache, and general tiredness.

My friend was worse. He'd double brew coffee, drink a pot before coming to school etc.
He had to go through detox just to get the caffeine boost back. This was usually about a week of headache, occasionally blurred vision, motor control issues in the first day or two...

Yeah. And people say coffee isn't "bad" for you!

coffee itself isn't bad...in fact, up to 4 cups still yields positive benefits. Beyond 4 cups, the increased risk of heart problems along with excessive amounts of caffeine destroy anything positive that comes out of coffee. Your friend got addicted to caffeine, not coffee.

I am known to be on a sensitive side when it comes to chemical substances, be it alcohol, caffein or whatever. A large cup of coffee would not only keep me awake, but turn me slightly hyperactive at times. Fun while it lasts, but I get fatigued from it.

Not a huge fan of coffee, but I do drink when I need to force myself awake. It works all the time

I have developed a taste for Columbian dark roast. I bought some "ground" Costa Rican and Columbian from Leighs Coffee on ebay. The Costa Rican was a little lighter roast than I prefer, but the Columbian was Grade-A.

The cost was a little pricey, so I'm looking for name brand Columbian alteratives.
I even tried some Nescafe 100% Columbian "instant". For "instant" it's not bad at all. It blows away any other instant coffee that I've tried.

My latest coffee adventure is "Kona Joe's Kainaliu Kona. :D
I've got a 1/2lb bag of medium roast ordered. I'll post an evaluation when it arrives. ;)

Happy Cupping! :thumbsup::laugh:
I received my Kona Joe's yesterday...
Maybe my taste buds aren't developed enough to appreciate this high-end java. But I won't be ordering anymore. I'll stick with my 100% Columbian ground coffee from now on.
The Kona Joe's was expensive, but I'll count it as an investment towards continuing education. ;)

I think they sell that shock coffee now at some gas station marts. Here in Lexington I saw a sign for it at a Thorntons.
