Any bright ideas as to how to remove some links from this watch strap ?

I have this metal watch strap, and the links are held together by little pegs on either side. It looks like the pegs have slits for a tiny screwdriver on one side, but does it actually take a little miniscule screwdriver to get them out, or are they pushed out somehow ?

See, I started doing that, but it's pretty hard, though it did work. The pin on the opposite side that I was pushing on started to emerge (the end with the slits). I dunno if I should keep going though :S

I've done this on 3 watches, including my current Omega Seamaster. Why spend $10 when you can spend $.01 on a paper clip (or a metal tipped mechanical pencil).
