K, I'm thinking about upgrading my GPU.... Currently i'm running on an 8800GTS (640mb) and want to grab something a little better. I'm thinking about a 260-280 from BFGtech, but i'm concerned that my CPU may end up holding me back... Anybody?

6000+ x2 (Stock 3.095ghz OC'd to 3.2)
gigabyte GS-MA69VS-S2 MoBo
2x1gb Corsair DDR2 800 (soon to be 4x 1gb DDR2 800)
Windows 7 RC

what res?? at 1920 your cpu wont hold a gtx260 back too much at all but a gtx280 certainly would not be able to be fully utilized. below 1920 even the gtx260 wont be fully pushed with that cpu. every game will be playable though you just want get everything out of it.

The most I would go in your situation is a regular 260, and even that is overkill.

Are you having issues with games at that resolution with your current card, or do you just have the upgrade bug?

I will most likely have troubles down the road when I get that Acer 19" wide, plus the upgrade bug... so it's a little of both... Then again I may just hold off for another year if I can and do a good upgrade. You know, CPU, Mobo, GPU.

I'm guessing you meant 1440x900, right? If you did, that's actually lower resolution than your current 1280x1024 display (virtually identical; 1280x1024 is about 1% higher than 1440x900). Your performance shouldn't really increase or decrease at all.
