For $6500 you should not be looking at Luxury cars and expect them to be reliable or cheap to maintain / fix.
This, unfortunately, there is no free lunch. A cheap luxury car doesn't stay that way for long.

While I don't completely disagree with that, I'd say I'd rather have a mild electronic annoyance with a Lexus than an engine on fire with a Jag.
Even in the bad old days of Lucas electronics Jags didn't have problems with engine fires. Jags had problems with... wait for it... electrical annoyances! Power seats that didn't work, power windows that didn't move, fuel gauges that shorted and stopped reading, etc. The problems with Jags weren't the engine and transmission, but all the electronic bits in the interiors.

Every British car in that period had electrical issues. Triumphs, Astons, Rovers...all of 'em. Positive and Negative are difficult concepts in Britain apparently 😀
