For $6500 you should not be looking at Luxury cars and expect them to be reliable or cheap to maintain / fix.

This, unfortunately, there is no free lunch. A cheap luxury car doesn't stay that way for long.

While I don't completely disagree with that, I'd say I'd rather have a mild electronic annoyance with a Lexus than an engine on fire with a Jag.

Even in the bad old days of Lucas electronics Jags didn't have problems with engine fires. Jags had problems with... wait for it... electrical annoyances! Power seats that didn't work, power windows that didn't move, fuel gauges that shorted and stopped reading, etc. The problems with Jags weren't the engine and transmission, but all the electronic bits in the interiors.

Every British car in that period had electrical issues. Triumphs, Astons, Rovers...all of 'em. Positive and Negative are difficult concepts in Britain apparently 😀

No covering over the wire insulation, so it rubbed against the chassis until it shorted on bare metal. This is a standard issue with many European car makers, from the early-80s on back.

Not a joke. 106,000 miles is just not that much. The OP is looking at cars that are in the 150,000 mile range. Most cars don't start generating repair bills until the 130,000 to 150,000 range and in the 150,000 to 200,000 mile range things tend to really start getting expensive as parts like alternators begin to fail from age, valve stem seals harden and let oil past on startup, rear main seals harden and start to leak oil, etc.

The fact that your car has made it to 106,000 miles without needing significant repair is absolutely meaningless when discussing the repair needs of high mileage vehicles.

Despite what was true in the 1950s, 100,000 miles is just plain NOT a significant amount of mileage for modern vehicles. I know that back in the day a car was all used up by 100,000 miles, but that's just not true anymore. The expensive repairs tend not to start until later in the vehicle's life these days.
