Any better streaming service than netflix?

I've had netflix for a little over a month now, mainly using it to stream some old TV shows that I never finished. I decided to take a look through their movies today and was disappointed in the streaming selection; I looked at the top grossing movies from the past 5 years, and of the 50 or so movies, I think only 2 were available for streaming.

Now yes, I can get the dvds for most of them, but movies are kind of an impulsive, of the moment thing for me, so I'll much prefer to be able to instantly stream it than wait a few days for the mail.

With that in mind, are there any streaming services with a better selection than netflix? or is this the best out there?

Netflix is the best. Your not going to get newer movies on unlimited streaming services. The movie companies want to make their money on DVD's abd BR's. They aren't going to let unlimited streaming services have the new and good stuff. Either buy the disc or pay per view is how they make the majority of their money. Netflix's streaming library has grown by leaps and bounds over the last year. For $8 a month theres a ton of value in the service.

I prefer BD's. So I wait for the mail. I've tried the streaming but wasn't impressed at all with the quality.

also if I remember right, the audio for streaming movies in netflix is only stereo, not surround sound.

You can't really blame netflix for the studios that refuse to license them the newer stuff. While I can't always watch exactly what I want to on netflix's streaming I can always find something interesting. Overall, I'm happy with it.

Not necessarily. I don't know how many movies this applies to but if you have a PS3 (not sure if any other players support it, I know the 360 doesn't yet 🙁 ) and have enough bandwidth there are some movies that they stream with Dolby Digital.

if you need new releases or specific movies you are going to have to pay per movie. so that means about 2 or 3 movies costing as much as a month of netflix

Yup as of right now the PS3 is the only way to get 5.1 sound and 1080p.

Not only popular movies within the last 5 years, but just most movies. If any of you care to search, a lot of older movies are not available for streaming either.

there's an insane amount of movies that ARE available to stream. it's clearly the best option out there. and it's insanely cheap

Oh yes, there are a lot of them, it's just most are crap. Which is of course why they are available for streaming in the first place.

instantwatcher.com, streamingsoon.com have some good lists, I do agree, the selection of good movies is a bit slim, but I've been a customer fit years now... Pretty decent company, and a massive selection of movies and TV shows...

Netflix is the best legal one for unlimited streaming.

Vudu, PSN/Xbox, Amazon, iTunes will let you watch current movies on impulse, but you'll pay $4-8 each for them.

Netflix streaming is great if you accept the limitations. Don't expect to find every movie you want on Netflix, but it seems like I can always find something good within their selection.

I'm old and like older movies. It is especially nice thinking of movies you saw as a child and would like to see again and you look and they are available on Netflix streaming. I bet I could watch a movie a night and never run out of stuff on Netflix. For me it is a great deal. Anything else I can wait for the DVD or BR to show up since I have so much streaming to watch.

I haven't found anything better yet, and I don't really expect to. Studios just aren't going to let you watch the latest and greatest for the kind of monthly fee that people are willing to pay. Netflix does have more (relatively) recent big budget movies than anyone is giving them credit for. District 9 and zombieland are two that come to mind, and there are definitely others because several times movies that were on my DVD queue became available for instant streaming before I managed to get them in the mail. This tells me that Netflix is hard at work adding quality titles all the time.

I really love streaming movies off Netflix via my rooted Nook Color, I can enjoy a movie quietly late at night without bothering the rest of the family. I don't think you'll find a cheaper option than Netflix.

Netflix needs a better search engine. Actually, their browsing outright sucks. Why can't they make it so that it is like browsing at an old brick and mortar store? Show a shelf and based on popularity, show 2, 3, 20, 100 boxes on the shelves. You could even screeen on such simple criteria.
