Any benefits to use ipod app vs vlc on iphone

I am traveling and just remembered i had vlc on iphone so i dont have to waste time and money converting. But is there any reason not to use vlc?

It won't sync back your play counts and ratings is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head. That and you may get better battery life with the iPod app, but I have no data on that.
