any benefit to using a newer ECU?

I acquired a 2001 corolla ECU for 25 dollars. My car is a 2000 corolla, it's the same generation and design. I doubt there's any benefit but maybe someone out there knows something I don't.

Nope, there's benifits to using a standalone where you can program all the parameters yourself. There's benifits to using an older OBDI with less tight emissions controls. Getting a newer one will do you zero good though.

Nah, I'd need an '03 ECU to try something like that. 00 vs 01 is same power.

BTW, I tried to paint this spot on my steel wheels with spray paint. But I was a lazy ass, didn't clean up the entire area and created a mess of paint, dirt and oil. Maybe this is a good excuse to buy rims.

uhmm... why would a stock/OEM ECU provide any benefits, esp. on a car that you know has the same engine from the same generation?

It's not uncommon to have incremental engineering/design changes even in the same model year.
