Hey,
Recently upgraded my 300a@450/Viper TNT2-U combo to a Celeron2 566@850 with eVGA Geforce2 MX card. Using standard benchmarking I'm getting numbers that are somewhat off when compared to others I've seen on the net.
Rest of my system:
AOpen AX6B m/b (Slot 1) with AOpen Converter Card
96mb PC100
SB Live
6.4GB WD HD (5400rpm)
Win95b (all patches applied)
32x CDROM, etc
Here is what I got:
MDK2
640x480x16 = 83 (x32 is same)
800x600x16 = 80 (x32 is same)
1024x768x16 = 70 (x32 is 56)
Quake3 v1.11 (I run the demo - not full game)
Fastest/Fast/Normal
640x480 = 82
3DMark2000
1024x768x16 = 4500
I didn't post the other resolutions because it's obvious that I'm hitting a bottleneck somewhere. I know that my 850 Celeron will not compare with a P3-800, more like around a P3-700. But scores from P3-600 go over 100fps with MDK2 & Q3 using an MX card. So something is amiss here.
Using NVidia Detonator 3 6.31, vsync off, etc. I get 82fps in Q3 @ 640x480 with the MX at 200core/200memory; if I drop down to 175/183 the score drops to 71.
Either the MX is maxing out (doubtful - should easily see over 100 at minimal resolution on MDK2 & Q3 or the CPU is hitting the ceiling (more suspect, but can't understand why).
BTW, I run 96mb instead of 128 because Unreal (the original) runs much slower with memory above 96. With 160mb I barely get 25fps at 1024x768x16; with 96mb my score jumps to 56!
Before I return my CPU I would like to see what other people are getting.
Thanks
