That's some nice temps..push it more! IMHO 3 hours of prime95 is still insufficient. The system could crap out on you on the 23rd hr. Therefore I don't trust anything less than 24hrs. Even if prime95 could run 24/7, it may just give up when you start firing up other applications.

I agree, I had one error at 11+ hours with another chip, but this chip just seems so "crisp" and fast and" cool"that I think it is just cruising. I will push it farther, later after I am sure it is stable.

Any ideas?

I've got a 8RDA+ with a 1700+ 0251 JUICB running at 1,850 MHz (10*185) 1.675V and PC2700 at 185 MHz 2.8V with relaxed timings. PNY AGP Ti4200 128MB at stock voltage and freq.

I finally figured this one out. It wasn't the CPU or the memory. It was the motherboard's (EPox 8RDA+) BIOS! After reading about the new 3522 release in this thread at nForcehq.com, I downloaded it from the EPoX German site (here is the direct link to the file) and flashed my mobo. Guess what? I can now run 3DMark2001SE all night long!

FYI: This BIOS is not on EPoX's USA site yet. The thing that really got my attention was the fact that this BIOS's release notes says: "fixes: improved memory mangament." After spending countless hours tweaking my memory timings and retesting I was about to give up on 3DMark. Now to see if I can get the OC a little higher too. :)

Fine Print: Of course, allways proceed with caution.

Snatchface,

What is the stepping on your 1700+?

Thanks.

JIUHB 0310 WPMW. And oops, I lied. It started crashing. Had to up the volts to 1.75. Now at 2.31 GHz.

wtf? i cant get past 2.2 regardless of the voltage on my 0310 WPMW...

that's strange

i'll just modify the title to 2500+ Bartons, then Athlon 64, then yadda yadda;)
but actually i'm surprised this thread lasted that long
never expected it to hit 100, let alone 1000+ posts

Hey, I just got my 1700+ from the fedex folks today. Ordered for newegg like tuesday night or something.
New stuff:
$89 MAXTOP rack server case (something different, I put my monitor ontop of it like a desktop, only has one fan on the front but it's filtered.. no opening on the back for a fan plus it is very spacious.)
ENERMAX EG365P-VE(FM). 350W Power supply, (the one with dual fans...)
256 curcial micron ddr pc2700 ram.

Old stuff...
Some cheapo PNY pc2700 256M stick of RAM,
K7s5a motherboard, original version...
older, but efficient copper heatsink with a generic (loud) fan on top of it.
Geforce2 gts-v, and a geforce4 mx 420 pci...

and sold the old 128 pc2100 and thunderbird 1.13 of to my roomate. ;)

As soon as I got it and put it together I did some benchmarks using quake, and got good results. everything seems to be ok. So I went and installed Honey X's latest k7s5a bios and eventually put the buss speeds at 147mhz (150 caused a kernel panic when trying to access the harddrive, so it is a motherboard issue and not a proccessor one.) which gave me a total 1613.205 mhz proccessor and it registers as a 2000+ on my bios screen. No voltage or multiplier mods. It idles around 40 degrees, and peaks out around 43 after extended quake timedemos. Everything seems stable so far, the cpu temps are that high due to the lack of air flow, I am betting that it would go down to about 36-38 degrees inside a proper case and a nicer fan. But i bought this case looking forward to nice and quiet water cooling with a external resevior and rad, so air flow realy isn't a issue and I am pleased with the results. Pretty nice for a low-buck set up I suppose.

With my aging GTS-v overclocked to 200mhz cpu and the ddr memory at 340, it scores 232 fps at quake3 on "normal mode" at 640x480 using the demo4 (?) (not sure which one it is, but it is the only one I got. named 4.d_68)

And for all you linux geeks here I score a cool 3217.81 bogomips at startup. 2900 or so not overclocked.

Hopefully when I get my water cooling setup, well, setup, I'll run it at 2100+ and feel confortable about leaving it on 24/7.

Have you tried using speedfan to increase the fsb? You should be able to get to 166 FSB with speedfan after you have booted Windows.

i have the perception that it follows the year calendar(e.g. January-spring)
but looks like March is the end of winter

Winter lasts longer when you're higher up in the North. Winter is from October to March. Spring comes for two months...then summer...for another 2-3 months......then fall......then winter all over again. :D

Can't get XP1700s at the regular places anymore ,& the XP2000 is only £2 more than the XP1800 ,so I think this thread is nearing its death;)

Oh yeah I ordered an XP2000 Tbred B the other day:)
