I'm running at 2600+ at boot up
12.5 * 166 @ 2088Mhz
1.7 VCORE

It's always nice to pay $52 dollars and get a 2GHZ machine.

My heat sink is cold ........ hmmm
 
Question for those of us who got an "A" 🙁 What RAM should we shoot for overclocking this? Is PC2700 going to be sufficient or should we look higher? I know the multiplier can't be taken beyond 11.5 or something like that...
 
My heat sink feels a little bit average now but cooler then when my 1700 Abred was idling. Prime is still running strong so it's time to 3DMark 2001SE it now at the same time. My CPU at stock runs 45C idle and while running Prime OC at 2088 it runs at 48

Alchemize I have a 1700 Abred it depends on what board you are running it on HSF and all that fun stuff. You can take it up to 12.5 multiplier.

UPDATE I just got to the 12th test and it failed 3DMark 2001SE had an error. Prime is still running strong, OE, Cillin, PC Alert, IE, WCPUID, messenger, and all the background progz. Still 48C is the highest temperature and 43C is the lowest I have seen(at boot up).
 
It's about the luck of the draw some are getting Abred's I hear, I just got a Bbred. That's the product I ordered but I got a Bbred!
 
Iovah: I'm going to be running a A78NX Deluxe. I currently have a 512 MB stick of Samsung, generic PCB, CAS 2.5, I believe it is PC2700 but might be PC 2100.

I started out with a mild overclock...

11x139Mhz = 1529MHz
36C idle, 38C at full load
Stable for 6+ hours on prime95.

I know I have plenty of headspace, but I want to burn this baby in slowly. 😀

Hopefully running at 2600+ speeds by this weekend!

i don't know about your elixir memory(mostly generic) but i know that crucial pc 2100 memory usually reach 160-ish speeds.

i don't know about your elixir memory(mostly generic) but i know that crucial pc 2100 memory usually reach 160-ish speeds.
The chips are labelled elixir, but its PNY PC2100. Ok, I googled elixir pc2100 and finally came across this overclocking shootout of different RAM's. The twinMOS ram on this page has the same chips as mine. Here's the Link - mebbe it'll be of help to someone else too. 🙂 I was amazed to see that these guys had made the crucial 2100 go to nearly 187

a 1700+ 0302 doing 2.17 ghz
a 2100+ 0302 doing 2.30 ghz

i actually believe the 0302's are not too bad... well at least i've had good experiences with them 🙂

and yeah.... who knows if they'll even release a 1700+ AIUHB...

Go to this website and look at your memory chips it will tell you if it is pc 2700 or not

CLick on here for samsung to look for your ram

Search throughly for your chip number you will actually probably find them under 256 rather than 512 because it's a doublesided dimm I suppose.
 
My benchmarks are weak I'm only hitting 9400 with this sys rig I hit 9000 with just standard I think.

Okay, finally got around to putting my new system together, getting Windows XP set up the way I want it and working on overclocking. The rig and results:

AthlonXP 1700+ 'B' - week 50 - I forgot the stepping, JIUxB, think it's JIUHB, but not entirely sure.
FIC AU-11 motherboard (an Epox 8RDA+ clone, nforce2 chipset)
Coolermaster HAC-V81 HSF with AS3
Crucial PC2700 RAM
Radeon 8500 128MB
Maxtor 120GB 7200 RPM 8MB cache


At stock multiplyer, FSB, voltage and lowest possible fan speed (around 3200rpm) it ran 35 degrees idle/40 full load

Currently running 12X167 at 1.75v with the fan speed bumped up to 4000 (out of a possible 4800 or so) and temps in the range of 39 idle with 47 under full-load over a long period of time. I've been running an extended stress test over the last 8 hours or so with a mix of several 3dMark loops followed by an hour of Prime, more 3DMark loops, another hour of Prime, more 3DMark, etc etc etc with a little Unreal2 mixed in just for kicks. No hangs, no failures over that period, so I think I can now pronounce this sucker as stable at an internal clockspeed of 2004 (XP 2400+ level) as reported by CPUID. I could probably bump things up to 12.5X166, but don't want to deal with the increased fan noise that would be needed to handle the higher heat.

Definitely not at the top of the overclocking scale and no doubt the truly hardcore might scoff at the results, but I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to higher core voltages, so I'm happy with the results. Pretty amazing what you can do with a $50 CPU these days.

Hey that was a great help! I came up with the last 2 digits: A2 = DDR266A (133MHz @CL = 2). Looks like it is PC2100. Might be able to ramp it up a touch 🙂

it mostly should be Winbond 1 or 2
 
ok thanks because winbond 1 and 2 report me at about 32 34 degress or so but 3 reports me at 45 like PC Alert 4 does.

Another Question how do you know if you are in dual ddr mode on a Nforce2 board?
 
Any1 know why my BIOS (Phoenix on ASUS A7N8x) reports my CPU temp as 47C, while the ASUS PC Pribe appln in WinXP reports it as 37C? Which one should I believe? Also is there any site that leads you throught setting up MBM5? mbm.livewiredev.com seems to be down.
And Oh, BTW, Stable @ 11.5*167=1920, 1.65VCore. I dont want to try go higher before clearing up my temp. issue. Cos it goes to 45 full load from inside the OS, and if the BIOS idle reports 47, who knows what that might be 🙁

Doesnt your board manual tell you which dimm slots to use for dual mode opeartion? If you populate those slots, then you shd be fine.

Did that. my heatsink actually seems just about lukewarm/body temp. But then that might also mean that its not sinking up the proc. heat rt?
