I consulted my local artist (my wife). She says that pigma pens, as suggested by the kid's mom, are her tool of choice for drawing with ink. Clayboard is a good medium for pigma pen. You might buy the kid some pens and a pack of clayboard. This was the medium for my wife's tarot deck.
