I have a nexus 6p and i'm experiencing battery drain. I manually updated to the newest google play services from apkmirror (version 9.something) since google play store wouldn't let me update to the latest one, did a system recovery clear cache and google services app clear cache and still have some drain. These are my apps:

It's less about specific apps and more about your usage patterns.

First: find apps that you either rarely use, or aren't much better than the website, and get rid of them. One of the common bad habits in the smartphone app world is the "but I might need it one day!" mentality. If you haven't used an app for months and aren't completely sure that you'll use it again, that's a sign that it needs to go.

Look for duplicates. Do you really need more than one fitness tracking app, for instance, or more than one Twitter client? If not, cut the ones you don't normally use.

After that, the big battery killers are going to be apps that tend to deliver a lot of notifications or need to run in the background. Games and video player apps aren't usually problems; however, some app that always needs your location could be an issue. Also, consider toning things down. If Flickr or Google Photos is always set to upload photos, try turning that feature off.

Good point. However, i see an option to stop notifications and stop stuff from running in the backgroudn, maybe if i turn that stuff off that has the same effect as uninstalling apps?

If you are not actually using it, put it in Airplane Mode. Will definitely save battery.

It will to some extent, so feel free to try that if you just can't bear getting rid of a given app.

That "Backgrounds" app. says that you get daily updates of HD image files, I'm not sure how big they are though.

What helps my battery drain is by turning mobile data off unless I'm using it and for wifi to be off when in sleep mode at home.

The latest Outlook has shown to be the biggest battery drain on my 6P via GSam Battery Monitor.

Something you might try is going into Settings->Apps->Google Play Services and deleting the cache there. Also in Settings->Storage delete the cache. Reboot and see if there is any improvement. This worked for me in the past.

The battery information can help but it oftentimes doesn't tell what is actually draining your battery. If an app is using hooks into Android services creating excessive battery drain it won't show up as the app using the battery, it will be something like "Android System" or "Android OS" showing the usage.

There are some pretty good tools if you are rooted that can better show what is draining the battery, but on stock it can be difficult to find misbehaving apps.

Settings -> battery

I wouldn't call that buried... it's easier to get there than to change your ringtone
I don't understand...Settings -> Sound & Notification -> Phone ringtone. Or you can search in the settings menu.

My 6P battery is pretty terrible as well. Do you have an Android Wear device? I have a Pebble Time connected, and I think this is the primary culprit for my issues. I've also found GasBuddy and GSam battery monitor are bad offenders as well.

This is a good point that I've noticed as well. Many battery monitors I've tried just make things worse by running in the background analyzing battery usage. I've seen no benefit to any extra monitoring outside of what android already provides.
