Double Trouble

Bought my wife an LG cell phone a few months ago, now cell phone is dead. LG says they will repair it under warranty, no problem, but they will only send it out to a UK address. They won't even ship it to the US if you pay for shipping 😕

Anyhow, I'm looking for someone in the UK to receive the phone from the LG repair center and mail it back to me in the US. I'll pay for shipping of course, and a fee for your trouble. PM me to discuss.

quite weird unless you bought it in the UK. did you contact the UK service center or a local LG authorized center?

They don't sell this model in the US, and I wanted an unlocked phone, so I bought it on TimTechs.com. I didn't realize that if something went wrong with it I'd be unable to get service on it other than in the UK. I live in the US, TimTechs sells from Hong Kong, and yet I need to get service on it in the UK? Crazy, but I guess I should have done more homework before buying. Bottom line, I need to send it into the service center in the UK, then have it sent to someone in the UK for them to forward it to me in the US. Doesn't seem worth it, but when you buy an unlocked phone without a plan, they are expensive....

What is that..gray market I think they call it??

Could you go through TimTechs.com to get a replacement? Might be easier...I can think of a few UK members that are on regularly.

Oh no, that would be too easy 😉 I contacted TimTechs and they basically will have nothing to do with it after 14 days of selling it, unless you purchased their extended warranty. Other than that, you're on your own. I worked with LG: their US office says the phone is not meant for the US, but the "international" repair center will repair it... but not ship it out. What the heck kind of "international" repair center is that??

Was it worth it? Would you buy the phone overseas knowing what you know now?

Probably, but I'd buy it along with a warranty option (which I normally avoid like the plague).

The problem is, you just can't get the nicer phones in the US without a contract etc.
