So we have a call center in my city. I see ads looking for help from time to time.
I am two years into an ISP Tech Support position, coming after 10 years of truck driving (lucky for me they have listed what I bolded down there).

I might be curious to try working for Amazon if they are well liked and respected. Although, aren't all call centers the same? There are only 8 of us at my current call center, so I have no experience with huge cubicle farms.

The ad:

The Amazon.com Customer Service organization is seeking technology specialists to provide customer and technical support for Amazon.com customers in regards to digital and other technical products via phone and email. You will provide account and application support to customers, specifically with regards to software functionality and troubleshooting of system configuration. Act as an advocate for our customer, reporting and acting on observed areas for improvement. Specialists actively seek solutions to customer needs and identify trends to appropriate personnel, including possible solutions or suggestions.

The successful candidate will have interest and deep knowledge of the Internet, computers, video, music, and books. This vital position requires an action-oriented, technically competent, and flexible problem-solver with excellent communication skills, and superior troubleshooting and analytical skills in conjunction with a structured systematic approach to problem solving. An associate or bachelor degree in computer science, programming, or related field; or equivalent experience preferred.

Update 1: I sent my cover letter/resume via e-mail last night at 11:50. XXXX just called and invited me to the job fair today between 1 and 5. Crap. I am working from noon until 3 and again from 4 until 9. From home, but still working. She said I can come in and just fill out an application instead because 45 minutes is not enough time.

I am considering asking for a double lunch period today. How would I ask for that from my current employer without revealing my need for the extra time? I'm sick and need to go to the doctor would not work, because I am back in the office tomorrow.

Update 2: I asked my boss for an extra hour at lunch and he asked, "What for?". I said it was personal. He approved it anyway. Here we go!
By the way, I hate change and I'm freaking out hoping I make a good impression.

Update 3: It would seem as though after my little customer interaction test on the computer, I was interviewed. Some basic "How do you troubleshoot this" questions. I was asked to fill out the background check form after the interview. I think that's a good sign as it was not offered before they tested and talked to me.
I should know early next week.

Update 4: I got the call tonight offering me the position. Putting in notice tomorrow and taking a week to myself before starting at Amazon.

It is a temp position to start. Review at 90 days.

40% pay increase, but I was paid pretty badly in my current tech support job. It is by no means a living wage. Best part is my commute goes from 58 miles one way to 3 miles one way. Whew!
