Hi, OC gurus.

Could you give me any advice on this?
I have an Alienware computer with 2GB Ram(Patriot 3200 2-3-2-5), FX60, A8n32-Sli deluxe. I didn't buy this one so please don't tell me how I ended up with this Alienware computer. Also, this computer is equipped with thermaltake cl-p0075
First, this ram does not pass memtest86, especially test 6 and 7. I have tried 2.6-2.8 vdim and various mem divider but have to set it only up to 1T-2-3-2-5 and 205 FSB.
Secondly, I set the multiplier 14x now. By searching others' settings, I'm wondering whether this 14x multiplier could be considered reasonable.
The heatsink seems to work very poorly. The temp at idle is about 45-50C and 55-62C at load. I'm really disappointed by the current setting. If I replace the 80mm cpu fan with 120mm fan, would it give any improvement? I found "Clear 80mm to 120mm Fan Funnel Adapter" here

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

those are bad temps, do you know the exact case? could help you to upgrade your case and possibly your cooler

See if memtest will pass with slightly more relaxed timings (eg 2-3-3-6 T1).
Also, if you do the adaptor for the larger fan, make sure there is sufficient clearance (at LEAST 1 inch) between the top of the fan and the oposite wall of the case (or you could cut a hole in the case, and duct down to the top of the fan for fresh cool outside air, I've done this and my opty 165 @ 2.7GHz runs around 50C at load).
Good luck.

Hmm. I'll try that.
Yes. Alienware has the same looking case. It's huge and ugly from my point of view.
Thanks,

For such a nice computer that's a pretty crappy cooler (relatively) with money for a computer like that I'm sure your friend has some spare cash to get a big typhoon, scythe ninja or cnps9500. Any of those should definitely help bring down the temps.

The problem is that my friend also purchased 2 years of warranty. I would really like to try TT Typhoon or even water cooling, but it will void the warranty.
Well, you could tell me that playing with these jumpers would also void the warranty. If anything bad happens, I don't think people in Alien-ware would notice it. Anyway, my first impression on this computer is that my friend got ripped off by this company.
I have tried 2-3-2-6, 2.5-3-3-8, etc. This ram fails memtest86, especially test 6. The ram is patriot. All I know from the label is as follows: DDR1GBPC32AW83. Based on the timing. I looked at reviews at various forums and newegg, and all reviews were skeptical.
I could boot up with various settings such as 220*13 or 210*14. But prime95 fails after 5 min. Could the ram be the reason?
Thanks,
JJET

After a long search, I found that the legacy usb option in my mobo (A8n32-Sli deluxe) has a problem. Once I disabled this option, the ram passed memtest. :)
Now I'm trying 13x multiplier and raising HTT.
Thanks for your help.
