This weekend is the Victoria Day long weekend, traditionally a weekend with public fireworks. It is also my GF's 22nd b-day. I bought a small kit with assorted fireworks, you can check it out here.

My question: Do you guys know of any tips or tricks with regards to these things? Anything I can do to have extra fun?

Stand as clost to them as you can when they go off. They look better from real close up.

Do not douse yourself with gasoline until after you light your fireworks.

Beware of the burnt thumb syndrome.

You have no rockets, so all you should really do is have H20 ready and stand back.

P.S H20=water

Point away from you.

Buy extra green waterproof wick if you need (thats the good stuff back when I used to play with fireworks). If any of the fireworks in the package have a weak white paperish wick, wrap some of the green stuff around it as an extender, the sundried white crap can burn out in like .002 seconds (I have the scar to proove it).

Watch where your stuff lands, try not to fire anything into dry weeds (these tend to burn pretty fast and far especially in teh wind).

Anything not attached to a stick that goes anywhere will go everywhere.

Have fun.

Edit: oh, no rockets? All you have to worry about is wicks then.

gah!
we used to make bottle rocket guns and chase eachother around with those. The aim sucks, but thats not really the point I guess.

How can you have no rockets? Thats not a fireworks display without em!

Your kit is not going to be much fun.

Get a couple of the lighters that are long and designed for grills... the repeated lighting through the night will really wear them out, so get like, 2.

String firecrackers + metal trash can = fun. :)

If it's not too late to get more, get some of the big blocks of things that fire off 64 or more rounds, one at a time in quick succession. Missile defense battery is a cheap one to get you started. I forgot the name of it (but would recognize it at a glance in the fireworks store), some sort of "aerial defense" thing we've gotten a couple of times is incredible. The first time we lit one off, my friend remarked, "oh my, I'm going to jail." It lit up the entire block for what seemed like forever. (fireworks are illegal in NY)
He's now a cop and assists us with fireworks runs to other states :)

Don't forget the mortars! Who the hell needs public fireworks displays when you can blow up your own fireworks 100 feet in the sky? :p

One word: Sparklers.

Take 800-1500 sparklers, bind them tightly together, ignite and stand back. But make sure you don't have anything flamable (including yourself) within 10-15 feet. It gets very hot.

:D
